Wow... This will probably be my last game until a coaching change is complete. The fricking house is burning down and she doesn't have time to call the fire department or grab a bucket of water. Insane.

See, guys, what I've been saying about the lack of commitment to excellence and even fielding a competitive Division IA football program!?! It's time to either drop football or drop to a lower division where our sucky program won't be so dang obvious

It just isn't worth the cost to fire him now would cost over $400,000 with wages, incentives and the cost of a replacement maybe more. The Michigan legislature would be screaming, the unions would be screaming and students that aren't into athletics would be screaming. Nope it's not worth it.07-coffee3

Generally when there is a coaching change one of the first things a new coach does is evaluate the verbals and decide whether they want them. All four of our verbals seem to be solid players so I would think a new coach would be interested in keeping them, but look at what Fleck did at WMU when he became coach.

We didn't make the coaching change last year because my understanding is that there is one regent who solidly backed English (and also Glenn Bryant) and probably the cost of a buyout.

Can anyone see a scenario where English returns next year? I can't. By announcing the position will be open next year at least potential coaches can think about applying once the season is over. Its critical to give the new coach more time to recruit.

I know. I'm kind of baffled by the lack of news too. I'm getting the impression that there will not be a mid-season change in the head coaching position. It looks as though the AD is content to allow Ron English to finish out his contract with EMU. At this point it probably doesn't matter much. We have at least a few more years of futility ahead of us and that's assuming EMU ends it's relationship with Ron English and EMU hires a coach who turns things around.

Talked to someone today and was told the AD has a lot of things going on and that the coaching situation isn't high on her list of things to get done.

And this, my friends, is why we're arguably the worst FBS program in NCAA history.
We've been that for decades so why change? 07-coffee3

I refuse to care more about this team that even the AD does. I've already paid for my season tickets so I'll go on Saturday and enjoy watching this team get its collective a$$ handed to it.

What a joke of an athletic department.

To me, that sounds exactly like a department that doesn't want anything to get out prematurely. I doubt that Lyke has anything more important going on than the coaching situation at an FBS school.

No doubt her ability to avoid making important decisions appealed to us and that is why we hired her (sarcasm intended).

For most schools Div I football is the most visible sport because of the publicity it generates. At EMU I guess our AD prefers it to be invisible.
I guess the way the program is today I could understand that completely.

She is new and has a lot of things to do also we don't know what other jobs she was given on top of being AD.

Dear Friends,
I'm going to the game Saturday, and I'm going to try and concentrate on the play of both the offensive and defensive lines. These are areas that most here have said need improvement, so I'll see what I can determine.
I know the defensive backs need to show improvement too, and if they would just turn around and look for the ball, in many cases they would have had a chance to knock down the pass.

RE: Good or not, how do we really know?
Carl,

I think we all understand that she has a lot on her plate, but what the fans want is to be told:

(1) Whether now or at the end of this season English will not be coach.
(2) She will start the process at the end of the season or now to begin the search for a replacement.

It took me 15 seconds to type this, she could do this in a 1 one minute sound bite.

I'm not a lawyer so I don't know the legal ramifications of this, all of us fans are sadden of what we seen so far this season on the football field. We want confirmation from the AD that isn't going to be accepted as the norm for the EMU football program and she will take steps to improve it. Her silence is too easily accepted as apathy or approval of the ways things are today.

Actually if Dr. G was still athletic director we could have had a double firing. He should have addressed this last year before he moved onto greener pastures. He had some good hires but the womens' basketball coach and English aren't included on that list.
