Nice article on UALR beginning practice, but here's the surprise.
Steve is quoted as saying Hagins has been moved to the two guard spot, and Smith and Thomas will handle the point guard spot. That is a positive, because if those two guys are both as good or better than Hagins, then we'll be very solid at the point, and Josh can certainly help us at the two guard spot. He did say Josh could play the point if needed, but the move sounded permanent. Now the next question is will Josh start at the two guard spot ahead of Dillard and Osse. I do believe Kemy is strong enough to play some three guard if necessary. But you have Leroy and Stetson there, so I don't know where Kemy fits in, unless he is ahead of either Dillard or Hagins. It will be very interesting to see how Steve utilizes his players this year. It's usually easy because we don't have but seven or eight at the most who are much better than the rest, but this year there are a lot of kids with equal talent, so we'll see. Should be fun to watch.
At least we're getting some media attention. Article in paper today. Segment on Steve Sullivan's sports last night on Channel 7. Now if we can just do it on the court to really earn some press maybe we're moving up in the world.04-cheers

I cannot imagine that he would have moved Hagins off the ball unless he was very confident of the other two handling it. Hagins is going to have to be a better shooter to play the 2, but I have no doubt he can improve.

You call that a good article do you? When the local university gets a newspaper article written about the beginning of practice in the local paper, and it appears in the "state sports briefs", that's pretty piss poor. But you call it good. That's the column where the minor sport articles usually appear. The column where the old AIC schools sports "briefs" usually appear. That's why they call it "briefs". You'd think that the local D-1 basketball team, located in the capitol city, the home of the state's only statewide newspaper, would get more than a "brief" for the beginning of practice. The fact that one of our best and most loyal fans calls that **** good, is one reason that we don't get any better from the press.

Got to start somewhere. It was in the briefs, but it was a pretty comprehensive article. Obviously not our ultimate goal, but at least it's better than we've had sometimes in the past. Let's be realistic. Hog fever prevails. But should this program every really get going, we'll get press. But if we can't ever make it to the postseason, let's face it. Like it or not, we're not going to get the press we believe we deserve. Should it be different? Yes. But we all know life isn't always fair, and this is a perfect example. I do know that ASU gets a lot of press in Jonesboro. What kills us is that we only have one paper, and it can use the excuse that it's a "state newspaper". Do I like it. Not anymore than the rest do.
But unfortunately I'm not a Stephens or a Walton, and I don't have the clout to do anything about it. So until something happens to give our program a substantial boost in respect, it's not going to change. So why worry ourselves about something over which we have absolutely no control. It's like the attendance. Has any of our complaining about it for the past twenty years made any difference? So there are a lot of more important things to worry about. All we can do is control what each of us can. Other than that we're just #%@$#%^ in the wind.

This program started many years ago as D-1 program.

If you want this program to get going, you need to be raising holy hell about a change, instead of complaining one day, and then saying give Steve another year or two, and if there is no change then we need to change coaches. You haven't heard me saying to give him "another day".

But, "until something happens to give our program a substantial boost in respect it's not going to change." It won't until enough people say do something now, or I'll not buy another tickets as long as no change is made. This old bull**** that "I'll keep going to the games because I don't have anything else to do in the winter," will continue until we the fans made them hurt in the pocket book. And evidently they are already beginning to hurt. If no change is made before next season, I won't be back. I wish I had not already paid for my tickets for this season, or I'd be gone now. Maybe some of you are better fans than I am, but I won't allow them to put such a mediocre product on the floor any longer, and continue to support it.
