We've been goofing up enough on defense that leaving Archer open is a big concern though as that could be an easy 7 points for Kent, multiple times. If NIU's offense is clicking I don't think that KSU can outscore us, but then again it's a road game and Kent knows us better than our OOC foes did so who knows.

Kent's players know NIU better than the OOC teams but Purdue's coaching staff probably knows just as much, if not more, about NIU than Kent's coaches do.

When the schedule came out I was hoping playing NIU the week after they played Purdue could mean some helpful tips from Hazell on how to game plan for them. After watching that game, I don't think that would be much help.

I beat the NIU drum every chance I get amongst B1G fans/friends whenever I can...basically, I contend they could win the B1G or at least play in the champ. game. That stated, the excuses, reasons, accusations about last year's MACC game are weak.....if I'm an NIU fan, I embrace a strong conference....

This could be a great college football game.

He was healthy in the MACC, and he had 12 rushes for 15 yards. Yes, he had one big reception, but for the most part NIU kept him in check. He's a nice little player, but he can be shut down.

We shall see!

NIU did a great job on Archer in the MACC. But it still went to double overtime, So, even keeping Dri in check, it was a nail biter.

In my opinion, we have a better, more mobile QB this year and some consistent receivers. No burners, but consistently good hands.

It went to double OT cuz Kent scored on a fumble, got a FG on a muffed punt in NIUs zone and played "penalty free" football. Not to discredit their team, but they had a lot go their way to be in that position. That team was better than this years Kent team, I don't even think its an argument

I agree with your analysis on your QB I haven't seen your WR so I can't comment on that. I just don't see kent going TD for TD with NIU who has an outrageously good offense.

Or, a lot of unforced errors by NIU, including a big INT courtesy of JL. No one's perfect.

Hey, we've got nothing to prove. As our HC said, most people think NIU has already won the game. NIU the undefeated team. NIU is the defending MAC champ. NIU is in the Top 25. We just have to show up and play; no pressure on us.

By the way, how many Huskie fans will we see in Kent this Saturday?

I think a lot of us blew our wads in Iowa City and WL. Too many road games so far. Expect Archer to have a big day. Our D is not so good. Opportunistic but average.

I never said Kent was bad in that game. You do kind of prove my point though by saying they were UNFORCED errors, meant NIU played down as opposed to Kent being as good in the game. I enjoyed the game it was filled with ups and downs.

I think the media is only saying NIU is guaranteed to win. You won't here that from NIU players. You may think Kent has 'nothing to prove' but they have one conference loss which is a set-back and they should want to show they aren't a flash in the pan (no pun intended).

Kent has talented players, I just think collectively they aren't as good as NIU. You may disagree. I don't know why everyone is only focusing on my MACC comments, there hasn't been much talk on this game and why my rationale on this game could be wrong. I want to here other opinions on what might go down.

As for Huskie fans, no clue. Probably a small showing. I will not be making the trip from Dallas to NE Ohio.

It went to the 2nd OT because in what could be one of the worst calls in NCAA history they had short yardage and decided a double-reverse to a walk-on H-back was a good decision instead of using the RBs that combined for 2900 or so yards rushing.

You realize in that game, Archer and Durham didn't account for much rushing. You also realize even if they score a TD there it changes the way NIU approaches their chance at getting the ball in OT right?

You also do nothing to disprove anything else said.

It sounds like its difficult to beat your chest about B1G wins, when you have to rationalize why some also ran FBS squad conference foe took you to the brink in your greatest season ever......I get it...but your excuse laden rants about bad calls, luck, etc., just sound small time and pu@@yish...

Here's the deal, u guys should show up and dominate KSU...Vegas says so, MAC pundits say so, as do most MAC fans.....what are you soo worked up about?

Any word on if we are breaking out the gold helmets for the "Gold Out"? Crosby mentioned something about them on instagram.

Lol. I never said bad calls but I gave somewhat of an overtone of how Kent not having penalties. I said NIU is probably going to win this game, how is that pussyish and small time?

You mention NIUs best team, that was Kent's best team ever and they got beat. I could be like you and say that's pussyish to avoid that, but I won't. I am not a player for NIU so I won't show up and dominate.

That post was comical, my excuse laden rants. I'm responding to what people are saying, which is the purpose of the forum. Small time would be the definition of Kent there dude. 2 bowls in 40 years, NIU has been to more in three years.

Unlikely. The gold helmets from last year were the same helmets we wore all year. They just sent them out to be painted and then the decal was applied. Meaning the helmets we have and wear all the time are our only helmets.

You say it was the worst calls in NCAA history and it certainly did backfire, but what most people don't know is they practiced that trick play all week leading up to the game and I was even told before the game we were going to run that play. It simply wasn't executed. Otherwise, who knows......

Is Kent expecting a big crowd for homecoming?

Wasn't sure what the normal attendance is like and what is a homecoming game is like there.

Clue me in on the gameday experienece and the amount of fans likely to attend.

If the weather holds as predicted, sunny and mid 70's, I'd expect 20,000+.

Living in the Chicago area, I've been able to know lots of NIU alumni. many are work colleagues- smart, funny, great people. They are the reason why I have always liked NIU.

You, Huskie JWN, could change my mind. MACtoAMU asked a great question. What are you so worked up about?

FlashFan, I am hardly worked up. If I was I wouldn't have put the words comical or lol in the post.

People keep bringing up only the MACC and refuse to talk about this game. Our opinions differ on that game and anything I bring up about this game gets ignored and the previous game talk continues. That game is done, nothing any of us can do about it.

MACtoAMU continues to call me out, but doesn't answer any of questions. Now you're calling me out and saying I am worked up and you don't even know me. It seems he is more worked up. I mean he is on the internet and calls me small time and a *****.

I am glad you know many good NIU people. If I change your opinion, thats too bad. I keep wanting to talk about this game. Hence, the reason I asked about the fans and the experience. I think you are reading way too much into it.

If you want to continue to talk about this game, like I would, please do. But if you, MACtoAMU, and others continue to belittle my opinion and say I'm worked up, I am going to respond. I'm sure you and MACtoAMU are good people, but you're trying to be internet heroes for no reason. Just talk about this game instead of people.

What else do you want us to talk about? Every KSU fan that has expressed an opinion has talked about the quality of NIU and our low expectations of beating you.
When we've highlighted our slim chances in the running game, the NIU fans bring up last year's MACC evidence that our running game won't even be successful. So what is it you wish to discuss?

Who said it would be unsuccessful? I said I am scared of Archer and I think Durham goes for around 100. If you get close to 100 thats a good individual effort.

I said Jimmie Ward covering Archer is good, but it doesn't stop Dri if he's in the backfield. It slows him down if he's in the slot but doesn't stop him.

I asked about what gameday is like and you just said how many would attend. I don't know much about the defense just they lost some guys, but keep Wollett, Nix, and Polk.

If you have such low expectations, I am sorry I wanted to know more than just about NIU being good, since I am an NIU fan. How good is the QB? Do you like Coach Haynes? There's a bunch I'd like to know.

RE: Week 6 - NIU @ KSU - Homecoming & MAC Championship Game Revenge Opportunity
Our defense held Archer down pretty well in the MACC but the defense was much more solid last year, we've had quite a few defensive lapses this year so it will be tougher this time to keep him from hurting us significantly. If you have a better QB, even more so. Although with a young QB we may have a better chance at interceptions, and we've had quite a few already. I think we'll do reasonably well at bottling up Durham. Just a guess, obviously, it depends how we decide to defend.

Special teams will be interesting. Will NIU kick to Archer? Will Kent State kick to Lewis? Will both teams give up field position by kicking it short?
