Clint lived above us in the Commons during the title run. Pretty much a great dude.

Andre quoted in DNR today:

Life lesson
Suspension blessing in disguise because he was headed down wrong path
Sorry he let down team, family and community and all who have supported him

Great response from him and good to know he takes responsibility and realizes that he has a sense of duty.

RE: Andre Nation suspended 15 games
snipit from article that made me chuckle....

"Nation, who cannot travel with the team but is allowed to practice with it during his suspension, will miss just one CAA game before returning against College of Charleston on Jan. 7. He's still high on his team, even in his absence.

03-phew

But in all seriousness I am glad to hear Nation is growing from his personal mistake and he sees how his poor judgment impacts his teammates and coaches. I am going to the JMU vs. UVA game next week and I would have loved to have seen Nation man up Joe Harris for UVA. Regardless, I still think the season will be bright for the Dukes.

I have no clue how uva looks as a team this year, but I have a blowhard cavalier friend that thinks they are the real deal this year, best since their Singletary days... he offered me a 21 point line for a lunch bet. I took it, obviously, but probably would have taken any line just because... are the real vegas lines out yet?

Not sure but I think it will be about 68-40. UVA will be very good and they will be playing great defense and we will struggle mightily to score.

They are projected to finish 4th this year in the ACC. An ACC with Syracuse and Pitt now. Pretty good. Will be tough defensively as usual for a Bennett team, but offense will continue to be the question. UVA has, in recent history, struggled against CAA teams.

Although a JMU upset is unlikely, JMU playing UVA tough on the road and keeping it at least within striking distance would give me a lot of optimism for the season.

UVA is deep, only lost one player from last year's team, and gain a talented transfer that gives them 4 quality bigs. They are a potential Sweet 16 team.

Notre Dame is also in the ACC this season. If the Carolina refs ease off, there will be ever better basketball out of that conference this season.

I don't even know what the kid did or did not do...if it's weed it's obviously a poor decision knowing the substance is tested. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time but 15 games is harsh considering it's all but legal in some states and college campuses are full of it.

Do JMU profs get tested or did the faculty senate committee vote that down?

I knew we'd get this garbage. It's an illegal drug in Va and by federal law. That some states have moved to decriminalize dope doesn't now make it any more "legal" to the NCAA.

Hell some kid on the Gonzaga team (I think) got a similar or same suspension and they grow and smoke the stuff out there openly on the streets. It's STILL an NCAA violation. period.

This argument "it's just a little pot!" is a very poor message to send and if Andre decides to simply scoff and say "It's only pot, man" he will find himself making that argument from his mom and dads living room couch soon enough.

If they change the rule, then I guess they can make whatever stupid decision they like. In the meantime he knows the gig, put down the blunt.

I know I'm late to this, but +1 million billion trillion. I've been on the road as a LEO for less than a month, and I've heard "Come on man, it's going to be legal soon" twice in that time period. It's not Federally legal, and it's not legal in VA. Some people just don't get it.

"I smoked pot with Johnny Hopkins."

"You don't know anyone named Johnny Hopkins."

"It was Johnny Hopkins, and Sloan Kettering, and they were blazing that **** up everyday."
