What's the best downtown resturant for a Sunday afternoon?
I have a close friend that's taking chemo for breast cancer and I wanted to take her downtown tomorrow for a nice meal.

Any recommendations?

I thought of that but wasn't sure exactly what to expect there.

Unbelievable experience. Service and great food. Salad bar is fantastic, meat selection is out of this world. Pricey though. About $42 per person, unless you can find a "buy one, get one free" coupon. They validate parking if you park in any of the area covered garages.

I think you can buy the salad bar without the meat, if you are so inclined. And it's like no salad bar you have ever seen. Plenty of seafood and goodies on it.

It's also fun to sit outside on the Mall at the Majestic.

Majestic. Main @ Peabody Place. Easy parking next to the Orpheum.

You might go on the side of caution because of the chemo. Her appetite might not be what it once was.

The chemo has had an affect on her tastes more than appetite. Love the Majestic but wanted to try one of the other great restaurants downtown. Have not been to the new Paulette's so it is between that and Local.

Thanks all.

Majestic is good. Bon Ton, South of Beale, and Local are worth it as well.

Tried Local but the outside was too noisy from drunks and the inside was too cold. Those heavy duty aluminum chairs made it worse. Ventured down to the Majestic and had a decent meal. Would like to try Local again under different circumstances.

Had a Tops today. BEST burger in town for the money. Sure beats the hell out of those overpriced burgers at Local. Bet you can't get a burger, 2 sides and a drink for $6 and some change at Local. Tops might not be gourmet, but for a fast, consistent tasting burger, can't be beat.

Try Local in Overton Square. Several of my friends agree with me that it's better than the one downtown in atmosphere.

Great food, bartenders, and two floors to choose your favorite spot, plus a nice deck. Go late afternoon before the rush starts.

I'm okay paying for a decent meal and not on that poverty time.

I've written off the bang for your buck thinking when it comes to eating out. I don't like to eat out for the sake of eating out and dive places don't appeal to me anymore.

I've had the Tops burger and it's just a greasy gut bomb. What is appealing about that?
