I think its good for the program and good for the state.
We play VT every year and WVU in the coming years, as well as BYU and South Carolina.

OK...I'm a believer. I've said all along that ECU is one of the best in C-USA this year. After what I watched today, I'd say the Pirates are the best at this point. Congratulations ECU...a very solid, convincing win

no one cares who the best program in NC is when it comes to football. no one cares who the best football team in mississippi is, either.
the entire notion of playing the team in the "superior conference" every year is actually a disease that would kill our programs.
ecu, like southern miss, gained a level of national notoriety by playing nationally prominent teams. UNC is not one of those teams.
don't play MS, or UM, or UNC. play nebraska, and VT, and WVU, and such.
I say this out of sincere regard for your program
BUTTT, it should/could make recruiting players a little easier when you do beat those in-state teams.

No hate here -- I understand completely what you're saying. The W yesterday meant far more to us as fans (and to the players and coaching staff) than it does to pollsters, tv execs and the like. Considering the refusal to play us at ECU, I honestly have the same sort of mindset you do when it comes to UNC. I'd rather play VT/WVU/South Carolina/BYU, etc.
All that said...beating them in their house yesterday felt better than beating VT 2 weeks ago would have (for me).

In the past, I would agree with the recruiting aspect....in the business of college football today....it's meaningless to the top recruits. It's either dollars or you get lucky b/c the kid doesn't want to leave mommy.

nailed it.....when we took down msu in the eighties....man, was the best of sweet....it's unfortunate that national perception is different today....now it's NC sucks b/c they are BCS and ECU gets no cred b/c they are not....is such a distorted psyche

RE: Official ECU @ UNC Game Thread (FINAL: 55-31 ECU)
We are putting almost as many fans in our stadium as UNC and NC State the last few years, also we have beat them both under Ruff. It's not like they were sorry teams either when we beat them, NC State finished top 25 and had Russell Wilson and UNC was projected to win 8+ games this year. 1-0 vs State and 1-2 vs UNC. There really is no reason we can't have the best football program in the state when we expand to a 60k seat stadium in a couple years and are outdrawing them and beating them on the field. We are already close.
I think that's a big deal itself because there is NO non-BCS school that legitimately can make that claim over a BCS state flagship of bettering them in every way on the field and in the stands. We could really have the best football program in NC. That's exactly why they were smart want to never play us and let us take that perception from them like we did yesterday. That was a damaging loss to their program and big for us staking our claim.
NC is also not some rinky dink nothing state either. It's a top 10 populated state, so if you are the best media coverage would be big and your walmart fans from the ACC could just as easily switch to ECU football if you give them the reason. There are some quality programs in NC and most that have had success.
East Carolina
North Carolina
NC State
Wake Forest
Duke
App State
What other states have 3 programs that have drawn 50k+ in a season. Can't be many.
Cal, Florida, Texas, NC and I think that is it.

Example A - Charles Gaskin
He had offers from CHeaters, as well as USF, USM, Marshall, and us. He chose us yesterday.
