I've been gone from Memphis over 40 years, but still love to read things like this.

reminds me of the late MUS Coach Rudolph....

teaching Algebra, lol

Give us our assignments, leave to smoke, come in and have someone else grade our papers.

LOL......nowadays, these coaches of big time high schools don't have to teach and they make over six figures.

Six figures? Around here? Are you sure? They receive nothing from the Board for coaching and get money from the boosters and from clinics. They spend a bunch of hours year round working with their teams. Most sports have no offseason any more. I doubt many coaches make six figures at too many local high schools. Even if they did, that might equal $10 an hour for all the hours they put in. Every local coach I know is required to teach as well.

^^ no, around here, where I reside in Bentonville, AR

Where Walmart execs take it very seriously, and many vendors do as well. Sorry for not clarifying.

Kids being kids. No big deal. A small wager about what a kid would or would not do. It was dealt with and everyone moved on.

Definitely not kids being kids, at least the way I was brought up. It was a small wager and the kid took them up on the wager, which was extremely vulgar not kids being kids.

We have had results. There is a definite upward trend. Those who want results need to come out to the stadium and attend games. Ole Miss, Miss State, Arkansas and Vanderbilt have big stadiums packed with fans on weekends. Not an excuse - FACT. Coach Rock has already built a better program than most deserve.

No results there. Sorry but I must disagree. Look at the roster and which high schools these "recruits" come from, there is a trend. Too much politics involved. Coach Rock's recruiting is not good, he should get players for their skills and not who they played for in high school.

Seems like the usual. I had the varsity basketball coach at Whitehaven as my cooperating teacher when I did my practice teaching back in 1978.
He spent the first period in the class with me and then I never saw him again. I didn't pine for him. lol

Yeah, that still hisses me off.

I don't think Clark would have been a better choice than Rock. Did he have any experience as a college baseball coach? Would he know the ropes in college recruiting? Rock was assistant head coach at both Georgia and Miss State (not to mention an MLB pitching coach) and has been doing an excellent job here. Beating top programs such as Miss State and Ole Miss who have better facilities and support should bring more credit than he gets on this forum. In my opinion, we have a far better baseball coach than our fans deserve.
Baseball is my favorite sport above basketball and football. I would love to see us kick some A$$es in the AAC next season but it will take better recruiting classes and a more energized fan base.

I'll sure miss seeing him around Elrod Field. Multiple State Titles at 3 different schools (Sky-View, Germantown, and Bartlett). 900+ career wins and so many players impacted over the years. A retirement well earned

15 year old kids do strange things for strange reasons. I guess you are perfect and did nothing wrong as a kid and continued that trend as you walk across the water as an adult. These were a group of boys that got caught up in a moment of bad judgement. They didn't break the law, didn't cheat on their school work, didn't involve drugs, it was just a incident that happened. Passing judgement on a group of young kids is kinda odd for a man such as you that is perfect. Are you not supposed to be the forgiving type?

Love me some Coach Clark. Had him for Sociology at Germantown in 91-92. Super laid back and cool guy. Friends that played for him are all still close to him this day.

Mickey Callaway Gtown class of '93 is Cleveland Indians pitching coach for Terry Francona.

Gee We have two people on here that are perfect and can walk on water. That is amazing that you 2 were never 15 and did something crazy. Either that or you have no idea what actually happened. I am guessing you 2 THINK you were perfect and are capable of passing judgement on some kids.

RE: PHIL CLARK HAS RETIRED
There was an incident between two 15 year old kids. A challenge was issued and one of the kids answered the challenge. Not that big of deal. Childish, crazy and yes, vulgar, but what young boy hasn't done something that would be considered childish, crazy and vulgar. Well, except for the 2 perfect men up above. They have lived their entire life being perfect and can indeed pass judgement on others. Must be tough being perfect like those 2 men.
