RE: JMU to CUSA presser next Friday "It's a Done Deal"
UTEP maintained from day 1 in CUSA that it would always be in CUSA as long as SMU and Houston were in it...(presuming it wanted the Dallas and Houston markets). Both are gone, the money is a bit better in the MWC...so it shouldn't surprise anyone.

One positive I see is that if additional expansion occurs somewhere (say the American goes to 14) then the MWC "HAS" to increase its membership back to 12 to comply with its TV contract and a conference title game. I think that's a good thing. The Big East sat back forever and never went beyond 8 football schools, never giving anyone else an opportunity to move up...I like the idea that programs that make investments and are next in the pecking order can get a chance through re-alignment. I don't expect wholesale changes like what happened with the Big East and WAC, but that was a result of conferences refusing expansion for so long...it was a build up if you will.

One thing that is kind of interesting about this if it's accurate is JMU/CAA component. I'd assume that JMU would now be out of all conference championships.

The three division winners could be ranked by BCS-position or by W-L record in conference games.

Losing UTEP would be a huge blow for CUSA in hoops as well as in football potential. Their basketball is the only one that can get 10k+ and that has shown the ability in recent years to get top 50 players to commit. There football also used to averaged over 40k, granted on cheap tickets but gettign 47k to games is still impressive and there was potential there. That would be a big loss for CUSA. I don't think there is a comparable replacement if they leave.

Also don't forget that Aresco recently indicated that the AAC might be willing to go to 14 schools; and it is pretty clear that he means Army and Air Force, which is his wet dream to team with Navy. So it stands to reason that AF, Army and UTEP maybe ready to do a conference shuffle.

If they lose a team from the West, Arkansas State replacing a UTEP or Rice makes more sense. Doesn't make sense to split up MT and WKU or the Florida schools. Heck UAB wanted in the East too. The league has enough East teams.

And if they were going to add a new state in the East, why not get into Georgia and take Georgia Southern? They have done a heck of a lot more in FCS and Georgia is a way better football state than Virginia.

What if Air Force isn't leaving??? What if UTEP is joining the MWC with no one departing??

There basketball always made up for here while they were here and was beyond anything any of us were doing on a national level in any other sport.

Geography aside, those would be much better replacements. Nothing against JMU, as they are a very good FCS school. But C-USA does not want to become FBS's entry-level league.

that's because you don't know anything about JMU.

which I understand....why would you?

Apparently reading comprehension is not the strong suit of JMU alumni.

I read fine.

you said ASU, TSU and ULL would all be better replacements.

apparently, CUSA didn't agree.

No, you don't read fine. Because I said as an individual institution, JMU would be an okay replacement. But I personally would rather not add any FCS team at this point, for the simple reason that they are an FCS team.

And I may not be an expert on JMU, but I did look into their football program quite a bit when your coach applied for the position at North Texas a few years ago. Impressive. But that doesn't change my opinion about adding another FCS team.

Rightfully so- Not arguing with you. However, the upside to where we are now is that we will get stronger due to affiliation with those in our conference. Think last week's pounding of stAte shows where we COULD be in a few years.

Regardless- my point wasn't to be seen as an 'attack' (even though alot of people around here run the AAC through the dirt, yet we aren't the ones adding FCS programs..) My point was to get at- why not add some of the quality FBS teams out there. Arkansas State would have been a heck of an add. They want out of the SunBelt I'm sure since MTSU and WKU jumped ship. Similar schools to them pop into mind as well. Leave the SunBelt to help teams transition to FBS. History doesn't act kindly to the jump. I know there are exceptions, but look at Georgia State, UMass, etc. Is the potential move for basketball? Don't knwo much about their program other than they won the CAA and were a 16 seed last year.

bait and switch it may have been- but we are still in a better place now. Can't argue that.

Memphis and UTEP are two of the very few handful of "mid majors" in the nation that have averged 40k+ in football for an entire season. They have great fanbases and they both have as much PROVEN potiental to build football programs as anyone down to even big time support.

Don't worry, JMU has a much better fan base and brings academics to the table... You're welcome.
