Cantu joins Floyd's staff
IMHO the real reason Floyd was successful at USC.

The native of Paso Robles, Calif. was involved with all facets of the USC basketball program and earned particularly high marks for his efforts on the recruiting trail. While organizing all aspects of recruiting, Cantu helped the Trojans assemble signing classes that were rated no. 1 nationally in 2007 (ESPN/Hoop Scoop), no. 7 in 2008 (Hoop Scoop), no. 5 in 2009 (Hoop Scoop) and no. 6 in 2010 (MaxPreps). USC also had a top-10 class in 2006 and a top-20 group in 2005, according to Hoop Scoop rankings.

RE: Cantu joins Floyd's staff
I never said Floyd wouldn't win. I have always said that Floyd is a good coach and that he will be successful at UTEP. What I have said however is that his style of coaching and his attitude will ultimately wear thin at UTEP.

Mark my words. He will either get out while the gettin is good or people will start to turn on him. I'm just glad to say I was the first.

His only saving grace is that the conference has took a turn for the worst.

Duh!
How else do coaches leave any college? They either don't perform, or a big school lures them away after success. OBVIOUSLY.

There is another way. They sometimes leave knowing that NCAA violations are looming or they are fired because an investigation has already started.

Something Floyd is very familiar with.

Eustachy, a native of Alameda, Calif., and a 1979 graduate of Long Beach State University, has garnered numerous coaching honors throughout his illustrious career. In addition to his two National Coach of the Year nods in 2000, he was also the 2001 runner-up for the AP's top coaching honor.

He was twice named the Big West and Big 12 Coach of the Year during stints at Utah State (1995 and 1998) and Iowa State (2000 and 2001), respectively, and joins the Rams after leading his Southern Miss Golden Eagles' squad to 25 wins in 2011-12 to earn the 2012 Conference USA Coach of the Year award. Eustachy is also the reigning National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 11 Coach of the Year.

Eustachy's coaching career began at the age of 22 as an assistant coach at Citrus (Calif.) College, where he played two seasons after a standout prep career at Arcadia High School. From 1981-90 Eustachy honed his skills as an assistant at Division I schools Mississippi State (1981-86), Idaho (1986-87), Utah (1987-89) and Ball State (1989-90) before taking his first head coaching job at Idaho (1990-93).

Following his stint at Idaho, Eustachy spent five seasons (1993-98) as the head coach at Utah State (1993-98). He then took over for close friend Tim Floyd at Iowa State, spending five seasons in Ames, Iowa, and leading the Cyclones to the Elite Eight in the 2000 NCAA tournament.

Check the timeline genius. He was an assistant at Idaho and a successor at Iowa State.

History teacher he says! Bwahaha

My bad. I thought Eustachy was his assistant at Iowa St. as well. I knew he was his assistant at Idaho and also knew that Eustachy took over at Iowa St.

From what I can tell, Floyd took over a team at Iowa that had 3 20 point per game juniors. He took that team to the Big Dance.

Two years later, his team went 12-18.

You dont know anything. Everything you claim is either wrong or a copy-paste job. I knew you were trolling and also knew you didnt know any better.

From what I can tell, you are wrong again. It was 3 seniors and only 1 averaged 20 pts. The other 3 years were his recruits and 2 of those years he also made the ncaa tourney. But of course you conveniently got the negative record correct his final year. Since you are a fan of copy-paste...

Tim Floyd Era (1994–1998)

Following Johnny Orr's retirement, Iowa State hired Tim Floyd from the University of New Orleans (UNO) to serve as the next men's basketball head coach. Floyd's first ISU team recorded a 23–11 overall mark and a 6–8 mark in conference play, and advanced to the second round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament, losing 73–51 to the No. 2 seed North Carolina Tar Heels. Senior Fred Hoiberg averaged 19.9 points per game. Seniors Loren Meyer and Julius Michalik averaged 15.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game and 14.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, respectively.

Following the graduation of four starters from the 1994–95 Cyclones, Tim Floyd replenished his roster with several junior college and Division I transfers. Four of the 1995–96 team's starters had not been part of the ISU roster during the prior season, with sophomore point guard Jacy Holloway being the lone exception. Dedric Willoughby transferred to Iowa State from UNO, and Kenny Pratt, Shawn Bankhead, and Kelvin Cato each transferred from junior colleges to play for the Cyclones. The 1995-96 Cyclones finished with a 24–9 overall record, a second-place 9–5 conference record, and the finalBig Eight tournament championship—the first conference tournament championship in Cyclone basketball history—with a 56–55 victory over Roy Williams' Kansas Jayhawks. Iowa State earned the No. 5 seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament, the then-highest seed achieved in ISU men's basketball history. The Cyclones defeated No. 12 seed California74–64 in the first round of the tournament; Rick Majerus' No. 4 seed Utah Utes defeated ISU 73–67 in the second round. Dedric Willoughby averaged 20.5 points per game on the season. Kenny Pratt averaged 15.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, while Kelvin Cato contributed per-game averages of 9.6 points and 7.7 rebounds.

The 1996–97 Cyclones returned all five starters from the previous season's Big Eight tournament championship and NCAA Tournament team. Iowa State finished with a 22–9 overall record and a 10–6 conference mark in the inaugural season of the Big 12 Conference. The Cyclones would advance to the third NCAA Tournament "Sweet Sixteen" in Iowa State men's basketball history with victories over Illinois State and Cincinnati, before falling in a 74–73 overtime loss to the UCLA Bruins. Senior Dedric Willoughby averaged 18.9 points per game for the season, and seniors Kenny Pratt and Kelvin Cato averaged 14.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game and 11.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, respectively.

Tim Floyd's 1997–98 Cyclones finished the season with a 12–18 overall record and a 5-11 conference record. Freshman forward Marcus Fizer averaged 14.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, and Klay Edwards contributed per-game averages of 9.3 points and 7.7 rebounds. Following the season, Tim Floyd left Iowa State to replace Phil Jackson as the head coach of the Chicago Bulls.

I love how you nit pick. I meant to say that the three scorers averaged 20 points per game as juniors. Obviously, the next year with Floyd they became seniors.

When you take an entire post of information and point out that I called certain players juniors instead of seniors, yes, I consider that nit picking.

You are not fooling anyone into believing that you're a teacher or a UTEP fan, fatbutt. It is unfortunate that you spend your time trolling this board. Go outside and find something productive. Learn a skill or trait because quite frankly, you even suck at trolling.
