No, in some way you have to go through Seattle be it Minn/StP-Hou-Mem etc. My brother had to make the trip for his business 2 days of travel for a 3hr meeting & dreaded it putting it off for about a year hoping he could work it out through emails.

The BOT gave closeness of other teams as a reason for cancelling the team yet what they didn't happen to mention is that all $EC teams have club teams w/ goal being D1 league. Granted hockey isn't a big sport around the south but if UAH has a problem then I don't know why the $EC wouldn't either as they can't play each other multiple times for a whole season schedule???

I may not be remembering right, but didn't UAH's President make the original decision to end UAH's hockey team--which a new President overturned? I don't think the BOT was directly involved in that decision. I have no doubt they supported it, but did they make any public statements at all? If they did, I don't remember it.

I think the decision was made when Malcolm Portera was the interim UAH President.

Correct... an interim president, appointed by the board of trustees with no input from school/alumni/city, chose UAHuntsville's hockey fate.

And then the permanent president, also appointed by the board of trustees, reversed the interim president's decision.

Since we don't have any public record of the BOT about UAH hockey, you could just as easily assume that the BOT told Altenkirch to reinstate it.

It would seem that if the BOT was out to get UAH hockey, they would not have allowed Altenkirch to reinstate it. Plus, Portera made comments about the difficulties of UAH hockey, but I don't recall ANY comment from the BOT--when it was cancelled or when it was reinstated.

I doubt that the BOT (or those who really run it behind the scenes) told Altenkirch to reinstate as common sense of their modus operandi to date would say so (someone is nuts if they ever think they'll see anything on public record - see OCS for proof). I think it was just more that they realized from the bad press they were getting from the OCS decision & Portera ending hockey plus UAH getting organized added up to back them into a corner where they had no choice but to relent.

I agree. My point was that in reference to your statement that "the BOT gave closeness of other teams as a reason for cancelling the team", the BOT never said anything about cancelling the team.

Some trustees did make some public statements about the OCS, but I don't think that was the case about the UAH hockey team.

The majority of the UAB students have never been to a UAB Football Game. There is not an on campus stadium. If there was a new on campus stadium, thousands of students would opt to attend games, on campus, in a brand new facility, as opposed to opting out of going way out to dreaded Legion Field. Legion Field does not attract students, primarily because of such an outdated stadium in an unattractive part of town which is so far away from campus. Half of the students don't even know how to get to Legion Field. Duh!

And, keep in mind, part of the reasoning Portera killed hockey was that UAH really needs an arena. Right now they play in the City of Huntsville's arena.
