Blazer gear on campus
Who says there's no hope for this younger generation? Lol. I was on campus today and saw students wearing TONS of UAB/Blazer/Gang Green gear. The only non-UAB college apparel I saw was one UA shirt and one UAH shirt. (Hey, at least we're keeping it in the system.) I know that others have posted this previously and that this is how it should be anyway, but I was happy to see it for myself. It wasn't always this way. Good job, students. 04-clap2

Amen! This is a HUGE improvement over how it use to be. At one point in time, there were people wearing UA and AU gear everywhere you turned. With the # of students living on campus increasing, it will continue to get better.

I've been on campus more in the last two months than I have in the previous 10 years, and I can verify this.

Lots and lots of Blazer gear. Not much of anybody else.

I've heard stories of students who wear other schools' gear getting uncomfortable looks from other UAB students, too...

Then how can you verify it hasn't been like this for the past 10 years?

I have noticed lots of Green & Gold being worn on campus and at the game for that matter this past weekend, I only saw one person in "Updyke Apparrel" the entire time.

RE: Blazer gear on campus
The environment of the campus is definitely different in terms of passion about UAB. With more folks living on campus, that is only going to deepen. If we could ever get a string of success in sports, I think UAB has all the potential in the world. UAB alums and students are starving for success in football and again in men's basketball.

UAB's influence and support is tremendous throughout Birmingham and the rest of the state. But that is usually followed with a bad joke about UAB athletics. I look forward to the day when UAB athletics is spoken of with the same respect and support as everything else that we do at UAB.

It's a step, but those shirts need to be translated into attendance numbers

I think the new transit system which helps shuttle folks to the games has the chance to improve student attendance at the games. Student support is critical to the foundation of what we're trying to do. But more importantly, we need paying alumni to buy tickets and show up to support the program.

Now I guess the next step is for them to get their butts out of bed on Saturdays and come to the games!

there have been buses taking people to games since I was a Freshman back in 2001. students seemed to make it from Tuscaloosa pretty good, surely it's not such a terrible trek from 15th street.

RE: Blazer gear on campus
I spent 7 years on campus from 2005-2012 as an undergrad, grad, and employee. The improvement in the campus atmosphere during that time period was significant. When I started you would see nearly as much UAT/Auburn gear as UAB. Now, UAB apparel is ubiquitous while apparel from other schools is slowly dying out.

I had a large collection of college t shirts that I wore at UAB. If someone would have given me grief for wearing them I would have politely told that person to go ##/% % €€%= =%_#÷@$! ! $×@£ ¥€€% %=! $@=. That being said I have never owned bamer or barner gear.

If you wear a Georgia or Ole Miss shirt, people probably won't even notice. The ray guns are only set to "stun" for Roll Tide/ War Eagle/ Troy, and even then, you'll only hear from athletes, spirit groups and SGA-types. At least that's my experience. I got bitched out for wearing a Jacksonville State shirt to band practice one time (first week on campus - I grew up a lot that day), but in the general student body, I doubt it would register.

I've seen more than one Memphis shirt on campus. Too bad I didn't have a whiskey bottle handy.
