UMass @ Bowling Green
Just got my free tickets for this game from being a season ticket holder. Pretty excited for what I hope is the first of many MAC road trips :)

Any suggestions on what to do around BG? Also, I noticed the seats aren't exactly the greatest (on I think the 10 yard line). How strick are they about that? If I find better seats somewhere else, would it be ok to sit there instead?

Don't stereotype the rest of the MAC based on BG's campus... also bring a kite.

BG is a modest town and BGSU has a functional, largely unaesthetic campus. You won't find tremendous culture or exciting night life. There was a even a site long ago entitled "BG is Hell" by one discontent grad student. There are college bars, and a good set of students, most of whom (with the obvious exception mentioned above) are happy and glad to be enrolled (unlike a few miles north where most are bitter for NOT getting accepted into BGSU).

I imagine that they will be very strict as the game will most likely sell out because of the obvious rivalry that BG will have w/ UMass, and the superb talent that is coming to compete.

Moving around shouldn't be an issue. Other than the chairback seats on the west side of the stadium, you should be good sitting anywhere. It's homecoming that weekend, so hopefully you have already booked your hotel. Otherwise, check hotels in either Findlay or Perrysburg.

While in BG. Get some breadsticks at Polleyes or a pizza at Myles. Head downtown and have a beer at City Tap. If you're going to wonder through campus make sure to check out the Wolfe Center as well as the Stroh Center before the game. There is an exhibition hockey game that night as well. Being a UMass fan, I would imagine you're also a hockey guy. I think admission is free.

It's a typical college town. Take a walk through downtown, stop in a few places and have a drink. Hope you enjoy yourself. DM me if you have any specific questions.

Wear Ohio State attire and tell people you live in Portage, you'll fit right in.

Nah, that's once a year occurence the third weekend in August. Other than some small ones at the county fair.

And if you can, get to Myles for a pizza. I also recommend the garlic bread.

As far as the game, you can move just about anywhere without too much issue. I would expect a crowd between 15,000 and 20,000, so there should be plenty of open seats.

The word you're looking for is "sympathy"

But for the record, BG is used to having lots of Toledo students and alumni at its games...that's where they really want to be.

Unless you're down for shaving every hair off your body after the weekend, I don't know of too many things to suggest to you.

However, I do have to agree with the Miami guy...please don't judge the rest of the MAC based on your visit to Bowling Green.

You should be able to find a seat somewhere around the 50 yard line but you will want to grab it before the game starts. If you wait until 15 minutes or so into the game, you may have to sit up in the fourth or fifth rows.

Don't pee in the downtown BG alleys.
Stay near Perrysburg.

RE: UMass @ Bowling Green
Like the Miami (OH) fan and the Toledo fan say - you don't want to judge the rest of the conference based upon your visit to Bowling Green. The reason is because unlike Miami (OH) students, our students won't look down upon you if your not dressed in your best JCrew outfit and driving your BMW and unlike Toledo students, our students won't rob you if you are wearing your best JCrew outfit and driving your BMW.

Do not make reservations for the Victory Inn. If you don't already have reservations for the Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express, go ahead and make them for the Marriott Courtyard or Holiday Inn French Quarter in Perrsyburg or the Sheraton in Levis Commons.

Campus Polleyeyes - best stuffed breadsticks
Myle's Pizza - you'll either love it or hate it (I recommend the Mexican Lovers pizza)
Paglia's - located on S. Main St. has a pizza buffet and great soups
Jed's - downtown BG (Friday is Freakball Friday!!!)
Trotters - downtown BG has reopened (recommend the Little Brown Jug)
Corner Grill - downtown BG (got to get breakfast Saturday morning here - Mexican Omelette is my favorite)

Lots of bars in town for Friday and Saturday night fun.

Last Saturday was Ag Day and we did have a nice Allis-Chalmers heavy duty tractor out in front of the stadium. Come join us the third weekend of August for the National Tractor Pull. Spivey's Corner has the National Hollerin' Contest and we have the National Tractor Pulls!!!

The Hilton at Levis Commons (Perrysburg) is probably the nicest of the hotels mentioned... Having a lot of dining and entertainment options within walking distance...

True. No one wants to miss a game of Rocket football, even if it's played in BG. If lots are showing up for other BG games, with the attendance being what it is down there, one would have to think that BG students and alumni DON'T want to be there.
