IMO any conference that doesn't play football at the highest level is a mid major conference at best, and that includes the Big East...
Mid-Major has nothing to do with FB and the Big East is the 6th highest paid conference in terms of TV dollars. The TV folks think they are worth more than the G5 even thought they don't play FB. So only the P5 are power conferences and if you aren't in the P5 no matter what you're a mid-major?
Correct. The MAJOR conferences are those that play all their sports at the highest level. Anyone who doesn't isn't MAJOR...

Like I said in another thread, words evolve over time. The original definition of mid-major was made in a landscape of college sports that no longer exists. The original definition no longer applies, since the landscape it was created to describe is gone and will never return again...

St. John's doesn't have FB so we DO play all of our sports at the highest level. Bit, having money and name recognition makes the Big East a Major conference.

what about nova, butler,& gtown?

Georgetown would drop their FB program without a second thought. I'm sure Butler is in the same boat. So that means one team has a legit FCS program so the whole conference should be considered second class?

Seems like a lot of folks want to discredit a legit conference with legit spending money and name recognition. The whole point is for those who have the means to play on the same level. The Big a East has the means to do so, so why should they or would they be left out? Before you bring up that the FB schools make more money just remember that the Big East doesn't have to pay those big time expenses. Notre Dame is making the same amount in the ACC that the Big East schools are making. So DePaul and Seton Hall makes just as Notre Dame for its BBall. So it's the same amount that the ACC allocates for the round ball.

This whole debate is meaningless. I don't think it is anyone's intent to devalue the value of Big East b-ball as that would be an exercise in futility, however in regards to the discussion of a new division they are not even in the discussion....

http://www.oneafar.org/Governance_Proposal.pdf

I. RECOMMENDATION FOR NEW GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE
 FBS as a new and separate NCAA division.1
 Management Council rather than Leadership and Legislative Councils.
Composition: One AD and one FAR from each FBS Conference will be
included; SWAs and Conference Commissioners may also be represented,
perhaps one SWA and one Conference Commissioner from each FBS conference.
Item to resolve: Whether there should be weighted voting in favor of the five FBS
conferences that remain from the BCS automatic qualifier conferences (SEC,
ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12), and perhaps the AAC, successor to the former
automatic qualifier Big East Conference.

A. New, Separate FBS Division
The 1A FAR Board supports a governance structure in which FBS institutions and
conferences form a new, separate, NCAA division as such a division can group together
institutions that are more closely aligned in resources dedicated to athletics programs and in the
types of issues faced.

If it's just for football then you are correct, we have no place there. It would be pointless. But if it's for all sports we deserve a spot at the table. Any BBall post season tourney without us would be a joke.

At this point in time, any BB tournament without the BE, A-10, Gonzaga or a few other teams included would be worse than a joke. The above has to be for football only. But what if they decided to cancel all guaranteed seeds for small conf. winners ( FCS ) , all 14,15 and 16 seeds would change. Could this happen ?
