Freddie Freeman
He's on freakin fire and is having a really great season. I've heard Goldschmidt mentioned in the MVP conversation, but never Freeman. While Johnson has played above expectations and Heyward has done well in the leadoff spot, it's Freeman who makes that team go. The bottom of the lineup is a joke and Justin Upton is hitting .258. As goes Freeman, so goes the Braves

Question RE: Freddie Freeman
This has been true for a while for Freeman. Because he's not flashy or an a****** like other players, he flies WAY under the radar. But Braves are indeed Freeman's team, especially with the impending departure of McCann after this postseason.

Freeman is old school: hard work, don't make too much of a fuss, don't cause problems, enjoy the game. Wish more Braves players were like him. (Listening to that BJ, Justin??)

And, he's not that far off the NL Batting title lead with a week to go. He won't make it (Braves' 3B Chris Johnson, the "throw-in player to the Martin Prado trade last winter) is second to Michael Cuddyer at .329 to .332) but Freeman is at .314 with 105 RBIs and 23 HR's including a big one in the first today driving in Jason Heyward (who singled in the first for his first hit back after Jaw surgery).

Also, looks like from today's starting lineup Fredi Gonzalez has previewed his postseason lineup, and it does not include either BJ Upton or Dan Uggla, both of whom did not play today for the Braves' NL East-Division clinching team.

Congrats to Freeman, the Braves, and here's hoping they find a way to go deep into the playoffs (at least we don't have to suffer the Wild-card game this year.)

PS Craig Kimbrel saved his MLB leading 49th game today.

agree with all of that. I was impressed with freeman last year and he's managed to improve greatly.

I'm not sure its a preview of the postseason lineup. I think uggla and Upton play against lefties and are benched against righties.

considering freeman and heyward are probably the best hitters on the team, are you concerned about how well the team will do against good lefties? The Reds don't have any lefties in the rotation. are they the team you want to get?

I would say Freeman and Chris Johnson are the best hitters on the team. McCann will definitely factor in therte as well. Heyward could be good, but he just came back from jaw-surgery after a m onth off, so who knows how he does in the playoffs?

I think Braves would do well not to worry about which team we ";want". We have to beat whoever we line up against anyway. And the Central is still kind of a crapshoot with the Reds and Pirates playing eachother at season's end, and then likely in the wild-card game. I guess the Piurates have been a bit tougher on the Braves, but all the teams are good.

Braves problems on offense will get exposed real quick in the playoffs. This is a chance for Fredi Gonzalez to prove how different a postseason manager he is from Cox, who was a bit too loyal and slow with the hook in the playoffs.

I am looking forward to it, though! I really don't know who to start in Game 1 and what the rotation order will be. Minor has had some weaknesses recently, and looks like Fredi is tagging Alex Wood for a bullpen role. Theran had a great game today, so perhaps it's Teheran-Minor-Medlin? Maholm has been sketchy.

not asking the braves, i'm asking you.

I agree that Johnson has clearly been the team's 2nd best hitter, but Heyward is clearly more of an impact hitter. Unlike Heyward, Johnson doesn't walk much, so he's more fueled by BABIP which is a tough thing to rely on.

RE: Freddie Freeman
Well, they definitely don't want the Cards (even though they swept them recently), or Dodgers. I feel the Braves can handle anyone else in a short series. It's 50/50 IMO against anyone else.

ok follow up: would you rather face the Pirates, knowing they can throw Liriano twice, or the Reds who will throw all righties?

Uggla and Upton need to be liquidated after this year. Uggla is making bank for swinging really hard and missing most of the time.

I wouldn't be so fast to show Upton the door.

Uggla needs to go.

also agree. We all know what Uggla is by now. Chances of him being a much different player next year are not good. Upton, OTOH, we don't know for sure what he is. Do I personally believe that his ceiling is .225/.300/.400? Yes, but I could be wrong, he could surprise everyone and put up a 25/30 season. That being said, I'm sure you Braves fans would be thrilled with the slash line above
