But yeah, you are right. East Carolina isn't one of them. Even though WVU has talked about wanting us as a travel partner in the past.

03-lmfao at WV "talking" about wanting you as travel partners. Greenville has a population under 90k, metro under 200k. The program itself is solid but not dominant enough to warrant a call-up or even serious consideration (youre no TCU or Utah).

Doesnt matter if its Big 12 or ACC, unless the market or program suddenly explodes they dont want any part of ECU.

Youre ignorant about the UTSA program and the perception of it around the state. Thats not to say we're Big 12 bound anytime soon but your assessment of the situation has no basis. Ill just chalk it up to you being upset that the mighty Pirates are an even bigger afterthought for power conferences than a 3rd year program is.

Please point out articles that say you're big 12 bound. I'm sure we are more of a thought to P5 than UTSA. Hell atleast we've had a few articles/coaches pushing for B12/SEC/ACC. Even though we aren't going anywhere at least some fans of other schools, crappy bloggers and the occasional coach has mentioned us moving. Once the newness wears off of your program you will be where you belong behind Utep, Smu, UH & the P5 teams.

Actually Rice too, I forgot about them. so 5th in Texas.

I said we're not Big 12 bound anytime soon in the post you quoted. Actually not a single UTSA fan has said we are especially not in that three year span the El Paso reporter gave. So why would I need links to prove what we concede?

Regarding the rest of your post, like I said you have no idea what the landscape is like in Texas or what the perception of the UTSA program is around the state. You give no reasoning for why UTSA "belongs" behind those four teams. Some of those teams are clearly better options for the P5, others are probably not.

You probably know this and just dont want to see it but the reasons people are so high on UTSA are similar reasons why teams like USF and UCF left you behind, despite being younger and enjoying less success. And theyre the same reasons P5 conferences will take a hard look at them before they glance at you once you join them in the AAC. ECU is a very solid program but it just doesnt stack up well in the reallignment game.

If that's the case then you should have no reason to think that "the mighty Pirates are an even bigger afterthought for power conferences than a 3rd year program is."

Other teams left us behind because of the BE and C7's "market theory" which has turned out to be a bust... look how well USF is doing. At the end of the day you have your market to hang your hat on. We have a proud tradition of fan support and some great seasons in the past. Several "big market" schools have already proved that being in a big market doesn't always attract eyeballs. People will watch a winner, and a school that packs a stadium no matter where they are located. Contrary to popular belief we draw a lot of fans from across the state.

But I was there, and I assume, so were you...The destruction of the culture of losing can only take place when the fans stopping embracing excuses to not come to games. We know what we're up against, true, the long drought of winning, the bureaucratic bastages of the UABOT, The mystink of "Lesion" Field....All of this can only serve to fortify the apathetic cloud hanging over our football program.

That's what raincoats and umbrellas are for(yeah, I know they won't allow us to bring umbrellas in their gray outhouse on Graymont), & truth be told, after the 1st quarter, the weather wasn't a factor, I sat out in the open and never had to seek cover...What's to hang onto when/if the team starts winning? Too cold? Too hot? Too windy? "Lesion" Field too scary? #AllPlayedOut! IMO, the REAL fans were there for UAB's "home" opener. Oh, yes, I still hate that place with a passion, the thought of having to renew a lease with that place 03-puke me, and I long desperately for an oncampus stadium for our team, but this is the hand we've been dealt, so I'm playing the damn game, waiting to see where it leads. The team has an obligation to end the culture of losing, the so-called fans have an obligation to flush the culture of excuse-making. Nothing 03-pissed me off more than someone I run across here in Birmingham that has something bad to say about the football team, but has never, ever set foot in that wretched place we're forced to call "home" to see them play. I just want to 03-nutkick them sometimes, Smauggie!

Hell, you brought up a point I didn't. Legion Field is a 72K seat tomb in a rotten neighborhood, state of the art when Calvin ******* Coolidge was president.

You guys bring up something that I've always thought was odd/unfair/(just plain)dumb on sports message boards.

People are critical of other programs' fans based on low attendance. "What's wrong with ______ fans?"
"Fans? _____ actually has fans?"
It gets old. Those words are wasted on a board like this because the people in the stands are the people on this board.

You drive to the game, see the number of cars in the parking lot and figure it's going to be a light crowd, sit through (take you pick) 1) 35 degrees 2) 95 degree baking sun 3) rain 4) a loss 5) wife giving you a hard time for going..........and then get a bunch of fellow posters seemingly making you responsible for the low attendance....or cold hot dogs.....or neighborhood that the stadium is in......or low graduation rate......or insert rote critical remark. If that's not bad enough that people in your own hometown ask why you "waste" time and effort on a "mid major" football program.

It's easy to be a fan of an annual winner, a team that sells out most games, a program that has huge support across the geographic and demographic spectrum, etc. It take a real fan to stick through the losses, the critical remarks, the insinuations, etc, etc, etc.

The whole thing is just bizarre. No good deed (such as attending games/supporting your university program/donating/etc) goes unpunished.

I've been there.......for decades; I've been there. No matter how long I see it happening, it never makes sense.

USF will be fine. Theyre going through their first rough stretch but everyone goes through those. Their case doesnt prove anything negative about market size, if anything theyre a huge success story. Theyre still the poster child for start-ups.

And yeah ECU does have good tradition and a great local fanbase that packs the stadium. Like I said you guys have a very solid program but whether its true or not popular belief is that ECU doesnt have much state appeal much less national appeal. UTSA has the 7th largest city in the USA and potentially South Texas behind them. I know it hurts to admit but thats a huge reason why we're more attractive. Obviously the quick rise of the program doesnt hurt either.

Okay, you're ignorant if you think we don't have much state appeal. You call me out for spouting off about UTSA and Texas when you clearly know nothing about NC.

We are in the big 3 in our state for fan bases, public academics and football interest (which drives) the bus. To say that we have no state wide appeal is a ludicrous statement. We NC state's TV numbers in both Raleigh and Charlotte, and are very close to Unc's numbers.

Any winning program has national appeal... that's all it takes. Look at Boise for example. You consistently win, appear in the media, go to big bowl games and people will notice you.

You have "potentially" the 7th largest city and south texas behind you. We own our market East of I-95 (2m+) and have a STRONG impact in the state. Pot, meet kettle.

For the rest of the other C-USA schools, not trying to come off as snobby or anything like that. Happy to be associated with all the schools in the conference for as short or long as that may be but somebody has to check ECU's arrogance.

Look here, I've tried to mend bridges with Marshall fans (hell I love their program) and apologize for the trolling from some of our posters, I stuck up for your growing rivalry with UTEP when some fan from another school wanted to end your threads..... Please continue making sweeping generalizations about a school over 27k+ students, 100k+ living alumni and hundreds of thousands of fans. I'm sure the (20-30?) active posters and the numerous inactive posters speak for our entire fan base, with their sole message board posts.

You continue to post ignorant garbage off of your opinion. Heck I like most of the UTSA fans on this board, they liven the place up a bit. Please... continue....

So you have great attendance, have enjoyed pretty good success on the field and have state wide appeal. So why were you a second option for the AAC? They went to the West Coast and Texas before they invited you, why? And you are nowhere close to Boise State. If you were I wouldnt be having this conversation with you.

The city of San Antonio is UTSA's. Potentially was in reference to South Texas, an area that is normally ignored but that UTSA has started recruiting.

I never claimed to be boise, I said it just takes winning like them to become nationally relevant. Any team can become nationally relevant under the right circumstnces.

We were picked after all of them because of the narrow mindedness and snobbery of the old Big East/C7. They thought teams located specifically inside of a big market where going to be the ones to get them on the map. Greenville is not a big market and they did not think we delivered enough of NC. We have legitimate facts and statistics to prove that what we deliver is on par or above many big market schools. That's the reason. It's right there - spelled out for you.

Please, show me where your ratings in SA (much less other markets in Texas) are anywhere over any B12 school, UH, SMU, Rice, UTEP? I'm more than willing to take back what I said about y'all being 5th in Texas if the stats don't lie. I mean come on man we have our ratings right up there with UNC in our two biggest markets and over State in their own market.

Likewise what you posted about UTSA was ignorant garbage. You didnt take kindly to what I posted about ECU....what makes you think UTSA fans would take kindly to what you and the other ECU fan posted? Maybe I generalize but it gets old seeing ECU fans look down on conference members on here.

What? WTF are you even rambling about? UTSA is a commuter school. A poor man's Houston. Your school is not going into the B12. Your school is lucky to be in Sun-CUSA. Get a grip.

Reaching Boise level is rare. If you do it then by all means Ill walk away with my tail tucked between my legs.

So what youre saying is that being inside a big market is a key driving force behind reallignment? Which is exactly what I pointed out earlier. Whether wrong or right thats how reallignment works and between ECU and UTSA theres no doubt about who has a bigger market to pitch.

This is from Week 1, havent seen one come out for the other three games but its encouraging nonetheless:

Snobby? What are you rambling about? UTSA is a frigging commuter school. UTSA would not have even been invited to CUSA if Houston and SMU had not left. Now that the WAC, Sun Belt and CUSA have apparently merged; we now have to regularly read nonsense from posters like you who think that your school is some hot 01-rivals that CUSA had to have, which is complete nonsense. So I will say this plainly for you: your school was not good enough for CUSA until the schools that could leave; did leave.

Don't get it twisted. Your school is not in CUSA because you bought anything. Your school is only in CUSA, because your school was the next one up.

Dude you attend a commuter school in a large city. Hell the University of Illinois at Chicago is a commuter school in a larger City, but you don't see CUSA bending over backwards to invite that school do you? And the University of Illinois at Chicago has better academics to boot. You UTSA and UNT fans need to get a grip.

Hmm, sounds awfully similar to why the mighty Pirates are in the AAC. Except you were like their 2nd-3rd choice and we were C-USA's first choice.

Piratemarv you talk a lot of ****. If utsa is a commuter school then so is UT and A&M because we all basically have the same amount of students living on campus. Get your facts straight before you post bs.

And that shows you how dumb you are. ECU is not a commuter school. UTSA is a commuter school. Secondly, UTSA was not CUSA's first choice; ODU and MTSU were. UTSA's name didn't come up until CUSA became aware that more and more schools were leaving and/or trying to leave.

Finally, ECU was invited to CUSA mainly due to the Liberty Bowl having some kind of situation. I don't remember all of the specifics, but I seem to recall that the Liberty Bowl liked ECU a whole lot and CUSA was kind of in a bind. That was almost 20 years ago.

I am beginning to really think that the UTSA fan base may be the dumbest on this board.
