Ugly, but it's a win. Better than a loss.
Defense played really well.

Really? What the hell's he supposed to do? If he slows down to not hit him as hard and misses the tackle then everyone's going crazy about how he missed the tackle.
He doesn't lower his f'n head. Pretty damn simple to me and a lot safer. It's not a difficult rule to abide by.

According to Dehner Jr. Miami only had 1, yes 1, total yard in the second half.

The guy cut back into him. It's not like it was a defenseless receiver he went up and hit. It was two guys running full speed at each other.

Agreed... IMO it wasn't even targeting. He didn't lead with his helmet although due to the head dipping by the runner there was some contact but the 99% of that contact was shoulder pad to chest. JMO

Hell at this point I want to see him in just so he doesn't transfer away from this stinking sh*t hole of an offense.

RE: UC - Miami Game Thread
Thoughts:
-Defense played well; One total yard of second half offense is great no matter who you play.
-Offense: Awful. #1 issue is Gran's playcalling. I think, as i type this, Abernathy just got stuffed up the middle again. #2 issue was Kay. I disagree with some of you guys, i think hes a good QB. Last year, at least, this year, he looks different. Just my opinion, but i think he can still be solid.
Two weeks to correct the issues. Plenty of time left in the season.

I think the entire offense is different with Tion Green. We were able to run the ball in the second half, apparently because Miami's dline lost steam. Green I think can run between the tackles more effectively than Hosey or RDA, while both seemed to struggle doing that in first half when our oline was not getting enough push. If you get that from Green, who is an incredible talent, then you open play action and deep ball which are Kay's strengths. We need Green to be healthy and hopefully playing a lot more. JMO

I'm not so sure that the Colerain Cardinals couldn't shut down the Miami offense.

Agreed. There's no way RDA should be carrying the ball 24 times.

Easy to jump on the play calling.....but the game didn't turn/end up playing out because of that. Kay was very very bad in the first half. With Miami rushing 3 and dropping 8....he had a lot of time to throw and was wild, inaccurate, weak armed, and generally in accurate. Throwing 2 bad interceptions. How is that Gran's fault? 3 turn overs, 2 bad fgs, and no sustained drives (due more to the bad execution than play calling) created the feeling this was a bad game.
The stats point out how totally lopsided the game was:
369 total yards to 87
198 rushing yards to 7
Complete domination.
Kay was bad. Over throwing even screens. Had guys wide open and was throwning 5-10 yards over them. Maybe we run because the kid is struggling.

RE: UC - Miami Game Thread
Coach Tubs said that miami's defensive game plan was to force UC to run by dropping eight and rushing three. Said that they abandoned the pass and tried to force the run against a three man front. The OL needed to block the three man front better but indicated that Kay wasn't patient enough with WRs running routes. Said that the OL needed to block run plays better which would have yielded better runs. i love RDAIV but he should be a third down back and special teams guy.

Predictable play calling certainly didn't play a factor.

RE: UC - Miami Game Thread
Kay definitely didn't play well today but i don't think he's a bad QB. One of INTs sailed on him because his throwing motion collided with the back of an OLs helmet. The other INT was a bad pass that capped off a poorly managed two minute drill. All that said, he wasn't as sharp as he's been in the past, even though there were a number of passes that hit WRs in the hands and probably should have been catches, albeit slightly more difficult catches. Finally, if you are going to run the ball more against a three man front because you feel that it counteracts the opponents game plan, that should include Kay as well. No need to make our run game one dimensional when it doesn't have to be. Sure there is risk with injury and all but a Kay run was one of the more effective plays on the first scoring drive. That should have been a part of the plan.

Kay had 2 bad interceptions today. But that gives him a total of 4 interceptions for his career. Seems today was more of an exception than a rule.

I agree with you (eroc), though I also don't recall many opportunities where Kay wasn't rushed despite them only rushing 3. That just can't happen and a lot of that falls on the line and play calls.
