Wasn't trying to slam as much as show that others struggle with Georgia St. Saw it on a twitter feed for a beat writer at the game. The state of Florida in general doesn't seem to support sports well. Just look at the Dolphins, Rays, and Marlins. Lots to do and many people move there and still support their former teams.

Rays have awesome attendance during weekends. Take it from somebody that grew up in Tampa, fan support is the problem. Location, location, location. Look at the Lightning attendance after the lock-out. Sold out all but 3 games and they were the third worst team in the league.
And on behalf of all of the students, sorry for coming in late. It's hard to get enough tailgating in before a noon game.

So many factors are involved in large metro areas. You have to win, Fans in professional sports towns are not paying good money to see you lose. This is especially true when you play in a pro stadium. Our concession prices are the same as the Falcon's. That's $7.50 for a small 12 ounce beer and $10 for a tall can. Food prices are equally high. So when I see 100 students in the student section during a losing streak and 1000 in the parking lots during the game I am not surprised. Advertising is a big one. Youre competing against other events. Miami/Ft Lauderdale has some festival seemingly every 20 minutes. They have the beach. Here in Atlanta we dont have the beach but we have festivals year round, are surrounded by ACC and SEC towns within 4 to 5 hours drive, are 1.5 hours from the mountains and 3 hours from the beach. You have to advertise advertise advertise. Someone said that they saw a West Georgia football commercial here during The Voice. Division II West Georgia in Carollton is spending dollars in prime time in the Atlanta market. There are a lot of parts to the puzzle but it can be done.

The Rays have awesome attendance? They will finish 30th out of 30 in MLB attendance this year.

Yeah, concessions and EtOH were EXPENSIVE at Tulane too. Makes me appreciate Ladd just a tiny bit more.

You can get to Ft Lauderdale in 15-20 minutes in good traffic. West Palm/Boca have all of the same things. I mean obviously they have beaches and events too. You can see the ocean from seats in FAU's stadium.

He also mentioned that he knows of no other school in the country that gives out the announced attendance AND the actual. Everyone else just announces tickets sold. Heck we have all seen enough G5 games and even some P5 games where there is as much as a 20k person difference between announced and what is shown on your TV screen. Idiot move #427

RE: Well Georgia St draws better than FAU
Our beat writer put these numbers out there

Quote:Football season tickets sold for 2012, according to FIU: 10,569.

Football tickets sold overall for 2012, according to FIU: 72,878.

I think that counts each season ticket six times in the total tickets sold, which means 1,577 single game tickets were sold each game for an average paid attendance of 12,146. Much more logical. Still, that's not counting the student section, which gets in free.

Football season ticket sales for 2013 through Sept. 9, according to FIU: 10,045.

[Image: 736824_10151669877257585_236770823_o.jpg]
As you can see our student section was COMPLETELY filled for our first game (left side on the photo - band on the field). So when you take all that into consideration, you have the 16k announced attendance.

To be honest, I'm surprised by the amount of season ticket holders, especially when schools with a better "culture" don't even have 50% of that for last year, and with our pathetic on the field product.

Quote:FAU had sold 4,989 season tickets, which includes 1,636 distributed as part of sponsorship packages

It gives me hope that when we fix the on the field product and our "culture" we will have good attendance growth.

The other thing I don't understand is why you would buy season tickets and then not go the games for at least the first game, after all 16k is about 70% of our capacity and as we can all see, there is no way in hell that stadium is 70% full. Anyway, at least we can say that we have some revenue if not the actual butts in seats. Go F I U!
