One thing is clear to me after watching Marshall and ECU both play Va Tech...ECU and Marshall are pretty evenly matched teams. I think Marshall is more dynamic on offense than ECU but I think ECU may be a little better on defense and special teams. Should be one hell of a game when we meet up late in the season.

I wish we wouldn't of had 2 of our D-lineman out this game with injuries.

I'm more worried about the injuries during the game. Conference play coming up, upsetting P5 teams is great but losing players in a losing cause sucks. A lot of guys limped off the field during the game. Then there's the next game hangover after losing these close games. Marshall has struggled in the past with the next game.

I would not say that at all...Va Tech has dominant stifling defense and it took them a half to figure out what Marshall was about on offense and then pitched a shut out for 2 quarters and 3 over time periods....That is pretty difficult to do against any offense and great against an offense like Marshall.

Could Marshall have won?? Sure. Should Marshall have won? No, when you can't score against a team for the second half of a game you should not expect to win.

Guess what? 2nd half of the game is when the rain was the absolute worst.

Rain actually favors the offense and the receivers...It is hard for the DBs to cover in the rain as they have a hard time making cuts with the receivers. There have been several great passing games ECU has had in the rain...I remember a game in Dowdy-Ficklin with pouring rain against Syracuse and we torched their secondary during that game.

There are a lot of rain games that actually end up being high scoring affairs because it is very difficult to play defense in the rain.

It rained the exact same amount on both teams... don't use that as an excuse.

UH and Case Keenum rolled into Dowdy-Ficklen back in 2009. Temps hovered around 40 and it rained/drizzled the whole game. Keenum still threw for 527yds and 5 TDs.

They shut us out in the 2nd half for two reasons.. 1. their special teams was MUCH better than ours and kept us pinned deep.. we had a couple long drives in the 2nd half including one where we missed a FG that were 50+ yard drives but its hard to score when you start at your own 10 on all of them.. even harder against a defense like Va Tech's.. 2. Our coaches also got very conservative late in the game especially once we crossed the 50

Big difference between a drizzle and a downpour. Games in the rain can be high scoring but I would challenge the ECU fans to name a high scoring game in a downpour. Heavy rain is a talent neutralizer because it makes it hard for anyone to cut or react quickly.

I posted before the game that the rain would favor VT, we are not mudders. Our pass routes are based on quick cuts and we are also not used to playing on grass, especially wet grass. Our junior center commented after the game that it was the first time he had played in cleats since HS.
