Alabama will and can match Texas with money. #2 Saban worked hard to get Bama back on track and is in the best conference in the land. #3 Saban is a man of routine don't see him messing with what's obviously not broken and continue to stack coaches trophies at Alabama

RE: Saban to Texas?
For selfish reasons, I don't want Saban at Texas. He will light a fire under their butt big time and that is bad for Texas Tech.

That being said, I can't see Saban doing the LHN interview crap plus his normal media obligations. It will take a special person to deal with the media frenzy in Austin surrounding the whorns.

UT desperately needs a great hire that will catapult them back into the national title picture. It's the only way to derail the Aggie train.

Saban would fit the bill. They'll pull all the stops to get him.

It could backfire. Texas doesn't play A&M anymore. Without Saban at Alabama to be a check on Aggie success, Texas's attempt to scoop A&M might wind up providing them with greater success in the SEC than imagined possible. And at 10 million a year at age 61 with a 7 year contract Ole Nick might just decide to cruise for the cash like Mack. He might give you two or three years of spectacular success and then pack it in for the duration of his time. Even if Texas didn't go for it he would get a whopping buyout.

Very interesting take. I think it could backfire for Saban. Football is a tricky game. In a world where a 2-loss season is a failure, the success of a whole season often requires at least a little bit of luck, no matter how good you are.

If he stays at Bama, he could stay for 10 more years without another top-5 finish and they'll still build a statue for him. They probably wouldn't even force him out as long as he keeps having top-15 teams.

But if he goes to Texas for $10 mil/year, it's implied that he's there to win a national championship. He could have 3-straight top-5 finishes, but if in the 4th year he finishes #9 they'll be calling for his head because he hasn't won them a NC yet.

RE: Saban to Texas?
This is a tough decision for both Texas AND Saban.
Saban HAS BEEN the best coach - but for how much longer? - Texas must decide
Texas could be yet another glorious success story for Saban - or he could go out on a bad note
I can see pros & cons for both sides.

Why not?
New challenge.
Much better quality of life.

It would be foolish to leave "at the top Alabama" in SECond to none football conference to coach at "headed towards the bottom TX" in the B12. TX is years away from playing for a NC again. In fact, aTm will eventually cash in on better recruits than TX and become the marquee school in the state in my opinion.....

RE: Saban to Texas?
I've said this before, but its relevant to this thread so I'll say it again.

Saban will never leave Alabama for financial, "coaching" or "football"-related issues. He would only leave for personal reasons that no outside agency can control. Such as a desire to live closer to a family member, or something like that. Perhaps if he felt his authority/position was being undermined by the BOT (how likely is that?). But he is not going to leave because Bevo (or whoever) offers him a ton of money or a "fresh challenge".

I appreciate your point, but just want to point out that he already has his statue at Alabama and as the most interesting man in the world to Bama fans, pigeons won't even crap on it.

I agree with this and might add that the only situation that could have lured him from this perspective doesn't exist anymore. Saban would have likely been tempted for family reasons to have replaced a retiring Joe Paterno before the scandal. But that world doesn't exist anymore.

This is what i feel like. He has to be ready for another challenge. not that the SEC isn't a Challenge, but i think he wants to win a NC with another school. too my knowledge no one has ever done that before. Here is a better question almost though, USC looks to be in the hunt for a new coach also. i fell like if there were ever two programs that could poach him away its those two.

He could stay where he's at with a team set up already to win many more nc's
And cement his place in college football history as one of the greatest ever if not the greatest ever by retirement

Or move

And spend years building a new team to that level.

Alabama was hapless for one year under Saban, he took over in '07 and won an NC in '09.

I remember him saying the same thing at LSU and then at Miami (NFL). Saban is a great coach, there;s no doubt about that, but he's horrible at keeping his word.

LSU was rolling under Saban and he won a title with them and left after the next year.
