[split] Mike Aresco and UConn deserve some credit

Memphis and Cincinnati are good too, but I really think that television and UConn is the chip that the AAC coaches are playing until they can build their own programs up.

Good job Aresco on that television deal and good job UConn of just hanging around for a little while.

UConn is the flagship. These are basketball recruits that ECU, UCF, Houston and SMU are landing that they had not landed in this number before.

Do we even need to look at the Tennessee Tech v. Memphis football game from last year? or the Duke v. Memphis game from this year? Or the Memphis loss to Arkansas State loss from a couple years back? etc., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., ., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., ., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc

If you insist, but just so we are clear; UConn has been to a BCS football game too. BTW, Houston and ECU were in CUSA with Cincinnati and Memphis, but I don't remember ECU ever pulling in recruits like they have been in the women and men's program. I am of the belief that that credit has to go to television and UConn, because the Pirates will get to play them twice a year. So will UCF.

But go ahead an hate on UConn if you must.

i don't think UConn or Memphis are "flagship" programs...guess I hate Memphis too...or maybe I'm just telling it as it is.

there are two major money making NCAA sports...football and basketball...if you want to be thought of as a flagship, you need to be very successful at both...Cincy fits that mold...if UCF keeps it rolling, they could as well.

The "flagship" school doesn't necessarily have to be the same in football and basketball.

Is Kentucky not the undisputed flagship school in the SEC when it comes to basketball? They are nowhere near flagship status for football.

Memphis was the flagship school in recent C-USA basketball, but could never be considered as the football flagship.

The OP was speaking about basketball, and in that sport I would say UConn is clearly the American's flagship. 3 national championships in the last 15 years is pretty hard to argue with.

a "flagship" program can't be a one trick pony...if you want to be a major flagship program...you need success at mens football, and mens basketball.

women's hoops are fun, but much like baseball...it's a money loser...not a major money maker.

now had the OP said "UConn is the premiere basketball program in the AAC" that would be different.

You couldn't be more wrong.

If you've never heard the term "flagship basketball program" or "flagship football program" I guess we can't help you.

I would think someone from a school which was referred to as C-USA's "flagship program" in pretty much every single article written about C-USA basketball in the last 8 years would understand.

There's a big difference between UTM and Tennessee Tech. We would have killed Tennessee Tech. I'm sure of it.....well, pretty sure we would have......I think we would have......maybe we would have......hopefully......never mind.

The ESPN contract is a big deal in recruiting and Mike deserves some credit here for that recruiting aid. We all know he's taken more than his share of lumps on the contract, bowls, etc and he deserves credit for the things that have worked in our favor.

I disagree with my good UofMemphis friend regarding UConn. I think that a recent multi-time NCAA champion being on UCF/Houston/ECU/etc schedule attracts basketball recruits interest where there might not have been. I don't know that the Huskies being on the Memphis schedule has helped the Tigers' recruiting; we recruiting relatively well in our old conference home. The Huskies should help us in prepping for the NCAA tourney however.

However, we can now tell the UT women that we don't need them on our schedule any longer because our conference has a much better opponent. :)

So..... the only flagship programs out there are Ohio State, Michigan and Florida? The fact UConn is clearly the premier basketball program in conference and the only FLAGSHIP university I'd say works.

Way to derail a complementary thread by being an insecure dick.

yeah...you can't have 100's of flagship programs...and I really, REALLY don't care what some ECU fan thinks of me.

you left off Louisville...Tennessee...Wisconsin...Notre Dame...Michigan State...Texas...Florida State...several others.

I'd love to see UConn get there, though...but they're just not...
