The Butt Slide
Quote:There are so many things wrong with this play. With your team down 4-0 in the first inning, why would you stretch a sure single into an unsure double? How could you let a guy tag you between his legs without even looking? Why is your head so high on the slide? Why do you play for the Houston Astros? Why did you slide into a man’s butt? The list is infinite, because you just want to ask these questions over and over again.

Villar has a history of smart, speedy baserunning, so it’s a shame that he will now be known as the guy who did the Butt Slide. But that’s what you get when you do a Butt Slide. Butt Slide.

I'm not really sure why he raised his head. Maybe reflexively he was trying to slow himself down to avoid Phillips' butt.

I don't think Phillips should have been tagging him like that though. He was actually safe. Lazy plays like that aren't really a good idea.

bp said he didn't know the dude was stretching a single into a double. right. but i love bp's showboating. from the gif, which is all i've seen, he clearly looked safe. dusty said after, "i think he gets bored out there." it is nice for once to see a player take the game not so seriously (as long as if he isn't blatantly f*cking off, which.... isn't costing us games). it's a good reason to come out to the ball park. what's ole bp gonna do tonight? i'm reading hemingway's last book right now, it's about bull fighting in spain. the matadors would lull the bulls into a hypnosis towards the end of the fight and would drop their cape and sword and lean on the bull as if answering a telephone or kiss them right between the eyes. the crowd adored these tricks. hemingway hated them. but the matadors did these to entertain, i think dat dude just likes to have fun
