The "new" upper deck is to go from the east Blockhouse and wrap around to the Press Tower. Also, 2nd deck goes above the upper deck the length of the field from one end zone to the other end zone.

An archetects sketch was either on the front page of "a formerly great america newspaper" or "The Collegian".

Now, I believe the a good plan would be to build inside/outside suites like 5/3 Field above the lower deck all the way around. Then build an upper deck over the suites. And add proper facilities for the upper deck on that level....

The original plan called for 30,000 seats and the press tower was to stretch from end zone to end zone... I vaguely recall the renderings for the project, showing the facing of the structure to be all glass... Back in the day, it was one of the largest press box facilities in the country... Although still impressive, the stadium as a whole, needs major upgrades since it's been 20 + years for any type of major construction in the GB... I like Terrys plan, but think the price tag would be in the neighborhood of 50 million dollars...

When the people from UT Facilities were here in Fort Wayne, they were very cool to the idea of expanding a stadium we do not fill today. Any dreams of a Glass Bowl Expansion come with big check writing. Win a $400 million powerball and write a big check to get it started alright

I'll just keep my mouth shut since I already proved to you that 5/3 is a GREAT stadium (as reported by multiple sports news outlets, some even say the BEST in MiLB) that has been paid off YEARS early (even though you try to say that it is losing money 01-wingedeagle).

Fifth Third is nice. Maybe the comment was about maintaining The Glass Bowl's historical significance. I believe it's the only stadium in the MAC that really has history. Not perfect, but I love it.

What is the difference between 5/3 stadium in Toledo and the 5/3 stadium in Grand Rapids?

1)I hope these unions that are doing the construction are big ticket buyers.
2)I've got a real bug about GB ticket sales-if I can't improve them signicantly over 4-5 years with a decent product being put on the field-then somebody else needs to try to do it.
3)Fix the GB so it's more fan friendly and state of the art for media coverage.
4)Improve the fan gameday experience. Anybody that use go to the Friday Parties in the Park @Portside during the '80's knows what I'm talking about. The tailgating/pregame takes on a whole identity of it's own that becomes a draw in itself for students, fans, and the region.

This year's schedule is certainly a buzz kill for tailgating/pregame atmosphere. The weekday games suck.

Yeah they do but there are venues in Toledo that are able to attrack strong weekday crowds so I have to believe with the festive, inclusice atmosphere, Rocket games would also.

But as a board, we've been all around this one with no one budging an iota. I still maintain that most people going to college football games don't give diddly about what's happening on the field. They are there to be part of something. If the game gives them reason to hear that massive roar, then so the better. But it's not the end-all.

I have been to all three, and 5/3 (Toledo), IMO is easily the best facility...

I've been told the same thing in regards to expansion of the GB... It's interesting to find that close to half of the MAC schools have downsized their stadium capacities within the last ten years... NIU, BG, Miami, and Kent have gone from 30-24,000 seats... And, I think UB decreased from 30-28,000...
