I continue to hear from various Ga. Southern people that JMU will be joining the Sunbelt next Spring. I have not read anything on the James Madison end to believe this is going to happen.

Is there any credible source from the JMU end that backs up this supposed move?

Your guess is as good as mine. I wish I knew. Many seem to think that CUSA is credible as they were seen on our campus recently. But I also understand we have an open invite to the SBC.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but last I heard SBC is threatening to give Liberty an invite if we decline. Then again yesterday Eastern Kentucky said they'd be interested in SBC as well which would be a better move for the conference than Liberty. But I completely agree with burg that CUSA seems more of a possibility now than it did this time last year.

I do believe the SunBelt wants a 12th football playing school by June 1 of 2014. So if JMU will not commit by then I think the conference will move to another choice.

Anything is possible but it is highly unlikely JMU would join the SB. The only attractive partner from a peer institution is App St. While GSU has a good football history, the schools academic profile along with many other members does not align well with JMU. Liberty's academic profile is a better fit.

The SB Presidents are interested in JMU because the school is seen as an upgrade in academics and has a decent athletics program too.
