Also are you saying we would be the second smallest band in the big ten? I love our band, I just want more of them and for them to be louder. The band is such a huge part of the game-day atmosphere.
We move a lot of sound, especially this year. I think we're around 170-180. Also some 60 freshmen are on scholarship I believe
Ed, thanks to you and all the Huskie band members for all you do. You all are a HUGE part of gamedays at Huskie Stadium. THANK YOU!
+ 1 million! I still think that if there are those who would like to see some changes with the director or with the Silverettes CALL OR EMAIL to the higher ups. Dr. Baker, Sean Frazier...band etc. may not really be part of athletics but believe me...athletics can influence things a lot as to what they play. If you are bored with the music - email or call Dr. Bough.
The scholarships are awesome for the program and I believe are helping to get the numbers up.
niudos, your criticism raised my mother bear instinct. It's how I get when I love someone or something. :-)
For those that really want to raise criticisms about the leadership of the marching band, I would offer another suggestion. Speak to, or e-mail, the dean of the music department, Dr. Bauer. He's the person ultimately responsible for the leadership of the marching band, and from what I gathered during my time at NIU (in marching band and friends who were music majors), he and Bough are very tight.
Ironically, unless something has changed since I graduated, Dr. Bauer is the announcer for the marching band on gameday, so he's at practically every home game (You'll recognize his voice by his intro "LADIIIIIEESSS AND GENTLEMEN...!"). Those that feel they need to speak about the state of the marching band may have the chance to speak with him Saturday.

But, my criticism was aimed at DR. Bough and Lisa Morealle not the students. The reason the OHIO band is good is because of its leadership. They do different things and our current, in their performances most of the time.

If we're ever going to be considered a big time football program, 1 of the things that must change is the marching band. I've seen bigger high school bands than our band. They probably don't go to road games because you couldn't hear them at the bigger venues. The band sounds good, but it is a far cry from the Ohio University or Ball State bands. The big time marching bands have 300 pieces --- not 100 like we have.
You do realize Ohio's band is called the marching 110, right?
Good comeback - the marching 110 is freakin amazing! Oh wait...there are only 110 members so how can that be? *sarcasm*
Don't rip my sack off HFA....my kid was in NIU band too....
The Marching 110 I believe refers to the original number when the band was formed. Have a nephew who goes to Ohio.
The band had over 200 members last year. Just an FYI is all.....
They are damn good though. Enjoy NIU's band too....
