Can Akron be the Beasts of the East
I watched their game against Mich yesterday and came away highly impressed. Bowden is a good coach and they had a damn good chance to win that game.

I had thought that Toledo, EIU and Ball State would be tough but I now think that the Zips will be tough as well. What looked like an easy NIU schedule does not look so easy anymore.

Akron has not won a road game since 2008. NIU hasn't lost at home since 2009. The streaks will continue.

Akron is full of guys from major programs (i.e. FSU for one comes to mind) that didn't quite hack it.. Bowden's a good coach.... lots of new guys could take some time to gel.... I think they'll have an interesting season..07-coffee3

I watched the BGSU game they were doing well then a few things went wrong and they went in a shell.

The Akron players will either gain confidence or lose hart from the loss to Michigan.

Ohio seemed to almost lose it to Marshall at the end.

Kent St, Buffalo and Miami are lost if their coaches can reboot the teams mentally for conference play then one of them still has a chance at a winning season.

I would not be surprised if any of these teams won the division.

I saw the BG game as well... I thought they looked utterly lethargic.. I know it was an early game and they were on the road...but 1) chance to go 3-0 2) playing against a beatable BIG 10 team and 3) outside chance of making the top 25...wow... was completely unimpressed...

Also, living in Miami, the Ball State game came through on Sun Sports... they looked fantastic in the first half..Wenning CAN really throw it around and the defense looked athletic.. not sure if it was the heat (likely) but they came out completely flat in the 2nd half and North Texas hit em in the mouth on a few tackles...they cowered like little *****..

Despite our own challenges this past weekend, we are still the champ... protect the throne

Can Akron beat us? Sure, anything is possible in this wacky league. Is it likely? Probably not. Can they be a player in the East? Looks like it to me. That was an impressive performance yesterday. The East will be quite the dogfight between BGSU, Buffalo, Ohio, Kent and now Akron.

I think that game will propel the Zips to a good stretch. Confidence plays a huge role in a season and Akron gained some offensive confidence. But our offense will roll all over their defense and our D will make some big plays to put them in their place.

Maybe next year, but they aren't quite there this year. They had the game of their life at Mich, but most likely they will come back down to Earth the rest of the year. At best, I say they go .500 in conference.

Sure! Why not? They are the Beasts of The East for a Week.

But I thought the Beasts of the East was Kent State?

I mean BGSU.
