Just read about it. Sounds as if Wisconsin didn't hustle, but maybe that's not the whole story.

It looks like another case of the officials allowing defensive players to screw around, wasting game clock and failing to communicate that they're allowing the game clock to keep running. Such bush league officiating it's pathetic.

Bad officials. But the players could have avoided it, just as JMU players could have avoided it vs. Akron. Yes, very eerily familiar.

I saw some video of the play in question and it seems to me that the correct call would have been fumble recovered by Arizona St. But that wasn't the call that was made. Unless putting the ball on the ground like that is the same as taking a knee. But I've never seen or heard of that before.

The replay I saw showed the UW QB taking the snap, a quick drop back, and then he quickly put a knee down. He then put the ball on the ground (basically trying to spot the ball for the refs where he went down). The issue was that the refs either didn't see that and/or didn't blow the play dead.

PAC-12 reprimanded the refs today and will impose additional sanctions.

Quite different from the article in the DNR last week. That being said, this incident was more egregious than the JMU-Akron ending.

When I saw it I thought the same as DevilDawg. It looked like he did not get his knee down and instead just put the ball on the ground which would have made it ASU's ball. If the refs thought that occurred then the clock should have stopped on the change of possession.

So yeah, no matter how you look at it the officials screwed it up. The clock should have been stopped on the COP or if one of the refs saw the knee touch before the ball was placed down it should have been a penalty when ASU jumped on top of it. Sixteen seconds (or whatever it was) was more than enough time to run a quick play to center the ball and then spike it.

Yeah, the video I saw it was really hard to tell whether or not his knee touched. When I first watched it, I didn't even notice that he tried to kneel, but then when I watched it again I saw him start to go down. He ran in to his lineman though and it looked like that might have kept his knee from ever actually touching, it was hard to tell full speed. The refs did blow the whistle though so it should have been a penalty on ASU for delay of game when they jumped on it. The ref wasn't in much of a hurry to get the ball and spot it after the whistle was blown either though. Completely blew this one.

The refs definitely hosed it up... but this is also a case where the smart play is to make sure it is perfectly clear for the refs. Take that knee and hold it a second longer. Awful officiating though.

Can someone tell me why their is a dumb*** rule about not stopping clock in the the final 2 seconds?

Saw this commentary on CBSSports.com about the ending.

I only bring it up again because I had not heard of this before:

Quote:There is a provision in the rules that the ball is automatically down if a quarterback "assimilates" a kneeling motion. So throw that one out. The ball was "down."

So apparently the QB didn't even have to actually get his knee completely down. Just by doing the motion the play was dead.

I didn't know that. So there you go, they without a doubt got completely screwed.
