not really other than I liked seeing Coney out there and he had a nice 44yd td pass...ball had nice touch on it. This is the kid who is going to lead us out of the tunnel next year at Ohio Stadium. He should get some meaningful snaps this year which will help us going into next year.

Nice. Welp, onward to Miami.

Only thing I have to add...this offense just works better with go routes and seams than it does with all the little passes in the flat.

Loved seeing Gran try more vertical passing. Its when Kay is at his best.

I do wish Gran would get away from a handoff or delayed draw up the gut on every first down play.

It's almost like this team needs to establish the pass to set up the run. Also I noticed that anytime we tried to go around the end with a running play it was a disaster. Not sure if nwst was just really trying to blitz and take away the run or if our offensive line is just slow to adjust to the new blocking schemes. Guys in the backfield blowing the play up, etc. Holes opened up between the tackles later on in the game, but was this just our superior athletes wearing down an FCS group?

It's hard to tell.

Nice to see Kay look so good. He did have one pass over the middle that got tipped because he eyed the receiver from the snap on without looking away. Kay can get away with that more than Munchie because of his quicker delivery, but it is still a bad thing.

Kay also threw one wounded duck that was completed because the receiver was wide open. But the rest of Kay's passes looked great. Coney looked pretty good too, glad to see him get meaningful snaps this game.

Defense looked like the Purdue game again. Don't know how much of that was the competition.

I like that they brought Coney in for a series in the first half before the game was a complete blowout. Wouldn't mind seeing him get a series somewhat early against Miami as well.

Another takeaway is that is the best Tion has looked. Ran hard. TT said after the game he was looking to reduce RDA's touches but one of the other guys needed to step up, particularly in learning the pass blocking schemes.

Green looks far better in running hard and pass protection. Despiste his long run late, Williams still hits the hole like there is a snake hiding in there waiting to bite him.

Hopefully the offensive line can use what they learned and keep it going against somewhat tougher competition. They started slow but opened plenty of holes starting in the 2nd quarter.

RE: Game Thread: UC vs Northwestern State
One gripe I've noticed so far in 3 games - what was supposed to be the strength of the offense, the line, has not lived up to it's billing. Even Saturday night, there were quite a few running plays where 3 white shirts beat blocks and stuffed runs. Granted, they did open up huge holes in the 2nd half, it was only after the other team was worn down.

I keep telling myself that they are learning new schemes, some way different than what UC has run the past 4-5 years. But it's still concerning that it takes too long before they get going.

For RB, I predict Green will end up with the job. Saw him practice at Higher Ground and thought he was the best of the bunch, still believe it. RAD4 should be used as change of pace, splitout, options, etc. - not between tackles. Hosey did well, but is indecisive in the hole.

Coney looked good, really good. IMO, he could start right now. He also looked really good at HG. The battle next year will be huge.

Neither line has really impressed me so far this season.

Also, why every running play we run to the edge gets blown up is perplexing. Never seen a team look slower to the corner on O. No explanation for it.

Without looking at the tapes, my guess is the blocking on the outside isn't that good. There always seems to be one or two guys on the outside just waiting for the ball carrier.

Same here. Whether an edge run or a screen, it always seems to rapidly blow up, or go for minimal yardage. It's like the downfield defenders are not accounted for.
