Legaux has successful surgery
Legaux has successful surgery

Press release from UC regarding surgery today for injured QB Munchie Legaux:

University of Cincinnati senior quarterback Munchie Legaux (New Orleans, La./Edna Karr) underwent successful surgery on Friday, September 13 at UC Medical Center.

The Bearcats’ Director of Orthopedic Services, Dr. Angelo Colosimo, performed the operation to repair several ligaments in Legaux’s injured left knee.

Legaux is in good spirits and resting comfortably. He has already begun the rehabilitation process geared towards an eventual return to football. He will miss the remainder of the 2013 season.

Legaux was injured with just over nine minutes remaining in the Illinois game on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. He had dropped back to pass and was tackled below the knees and his left leg bent awkwardly. The ensuing hyperextension of the knee resulted in injury to several ligaments. There were no fractures or additional injuries.

At the time of the injury, the 6-5, 200 lb. signal caller had thrown for 237 yards and a touchdown while rushing for another 52 yards on the ground.

In 31 career games, Legaux has thrown for nearly 3,000 yards (2,847), going 205-for-396 with 20 touchdowns. He has averaged 5.5 yards per rush, adding seven TDs and 627 yards on the ground.

(NOTE: Legaux could be eligible for a fifth and final season, if UC decides to apply for a medical hardship waiver. Coach Tommy Tuberville said this week that the discussion can wait, as the Bearcats first will begin the process of rehab.)

Great news and good luck on a full recovery. Just watch, Munchie is going to lead us to a win over the Buckeyes next year and this board will be a riot.

I'm glad the kid has a chance to play again. Good for him. But, Munchie's best asset, his running, would not be the same. (think RGIII). Besides, a 3 way battle next year for the starting QB position is the LAST thing I want to see. I'd be curious to see what happens if Munchie makes a quick recovery and he is on track to start the season next year. Coney and Kiel both picked UC because they thought they had a chance to play sooner than later.

Not sure Munchie will start or not, but we have all seen in the past that you cannot have too many QBs available. Over the past decade, we have had more QBs miss games than I care to count.
