Evansville Stuns No. 6 Saint Louis in Double Overtime

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Sophomore Mark Anthony Gonzalez finished off a cross from fellow sophomore Nate Opperman with just 34 seconds remaining in the second overtime to propel the University of Evansville men’s soccer team to a 2-1 upset of visiting No. 6 Saint Louis Wednesday night at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

In a match that featured a combined 43 shots and 12 combined corner kicks, Evansville (2-2-1) was able to secure the win with Gonzalez’s late tally, his first of the year, and an earlier goal from freshman Jared Robinson.

The Missouri Valley Conference knocked off its third ranked opponent in the last 10 days, this time as Drake took down No. 14 New Mexico, 1-0. The Valley has now beaten three or more ranked opponents in two of the last three seasons (five in 2011), as Bradley (No. 1/3 UConn), Evansville (No. 6 Saint Louis) and Drake (No. 14 New Mexico) each have top-15 victories this season.

Bradley Knocks Off No. 1/3 UConn, 1-0

STORRS, Conn. – Bradley earned its first victory against the nation’s No. 1 team as Zach Kovacevic’s third-minute penalty kick goal stood up as the only score of the night and the Braves (3-2) held on for a 1-0 victory at No. 1/3 Connecticut (2-1-1) at Morrone Stadium. Bradley improves to 1-4 all-time against No. 1-ranked teams.
