Ernest Moss Hired as Assistant Coach for UT Track & Field

TOLEDO, OH – Ernest Moss has been hired as an assistant coach for the University of Toledo track & field program, first-year head coach Linh Nguyen announced on Thursday.

“I’m excited to have Ernest join the staff,” Nguyen said. “We’ve never coached together but we’ve been in the same conference and I’ve had the chance to see him coach and get to know him. Ernest is a very high-energy coach who connects well with the student-athletes. He’s extremely versatile and can cover a wide range of event groups. I think he’s going to be a key in helping us reach our goal of winning MAC championships. I expect him to have an immediate, positive impact on the performance of our current student-athletes as well as in recruiting.”

Moss spent the last year working at his alma mater of Western Carolina University as a volunteer assistant track & field coach focusing on sprints, jumps and hurdles. He helped lead the women’s team to indoor and outdoor Southern Conference titles while the men were crowned outdoor SoCon champions.

Prior to his time at WCU, Moss held an assistant coaching position at Radford University from 2010-12. From 2008-10, he was the head coach of the cross country and track & field programs at Virginia State University and was named the Central Collegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Coach of the Year for men’s cross country in his first season.

Moss began his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Sacred Heart University from 2000-02 while earning his master’s of art in teaching. Following graduation, Moss had intern coaching positions at Lehigh University and Lafayette College before beginning a four-year stint as an assistant coach at Davidson College from 2004-08.

While at Davidson, he helped coach three SoCon champions and three NCAA regional qualifiers, the first student-athletes to qualify in school history.

Moss earned his bachelor’s degree in communications and public relations from WCU in 2000. He also minored in marketing and sales.
