I would need a calculator to figure it out.
Do you have a link to the story of the "Big Ten apology"? That would be unprecedented.
The Big Ten doesn't call holding...especially against OSU and Michigan. Their offensive lineman are just "so good" they could never make a mistake, I guess. It's one of the reasons the Big Ten often gets owned in bowl games. Other leagues call them.
Did you watch the OSU - Cal game last year. Phantom holding call on Cal on a TD pass that would have put Cal in front 35-28 with about 1:30 left in the game. Replay after replay nothing, no holding anywhere.
There was a similar problem in the Utah State Wisconsin game last year and last year's UAB Ohio State game had some dicey calls as well.
I think we've reached a point in the progression of the game where the money for the BCS and soon to be playoffs is simply too great. The result is likely to be more and more homer calls by most of the conference's officiating crews. I think it is past time to drop conference officials all together and simply have a National Collegiate Officiating Association in which how to call holding, pass interference, targeting, etc., are standardized and all officials are held to the same standard of competency and no official may work games from his immediate home region, and certainly not for his alma mater.
I think your post is outstanding.

I think that's almost a given. I've also noticed that when booth announcers suddenly proclaim that there should be a replay that at the last second the officials, who have decided to move on on the field waive their arms blow the whistle and then look at the play. It makes me wonder if the official in the booth has become so sensitive to the impressions given by the announcing crew that they have decided that if an announcer raises a question it is in their best interest to play along. I don't think that this is a universal response, but it sure "seems" to happen that way. But the Tech / TCU game was an the exception to this suggestion in that no matter what the film showed, or the announcers thought, that officiating crew did what it pleased. It's certainly not working as efficiently as it did the first year or two.

In the Cincy game, ESPN announcers conferenced in NCAA officiating expert during the replay and the guy said the call cannot be overturned.
And then it was, TD gets taken off of the board.
Next possession UC forces a fumble and recovers the fumble. UC ball.
Here comes replay. No evidence to overturn the call, but they do so anyway, reason. They said forward momentum looked to be stopped.
Replay can't rule on that. They can rule on was the player down by contact, was there a fumble, who recovered it. The play was not blown
dead prior to the fumble. Replay can't retroactively say play was dead due to forward momentum.

ESPiN's announcer usually know less about officiating than the officials...
Of course, it all depends upon which team the announcers are rooting for too...

The grey uniforms were awful in appearance, but a big hit in terms generating conversation about Texas Tech's uniforms.
