Rice Cross-country meet this Friday on campus
The first meet for both the men's and women's teams will take place on campus northeast of the Shepherd School. The races are at 6:15 and 6:45 p.m.
I will post more about it later. For now, I'd like to know if anyone has a sound system(and generator) so I can announce the races? Let me know. It would make the experience better for the athletes and spectators.

Approximately 6K for the men and approximately 4K for the women.
Course maps can be found on the riceowls.com website, under cross-country.

RE: Rice Cross-country meet this Friday on campus
I've just reviewed the entry lists for the meet, and the men's team to watch may be McNeese State. Rice will be led by senior John Cavallo, with Adam Davidson of The Woodlands being the freshman to watch for the Owls. He will be running unattached in this meet.
Stephen F. Austin, Houston, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Houston Baptist will be among the teams.
On the women's side, I was reviewing the entries, and I did not see any Rice runners. Either they have decided to skip the meet, or their coach was late in sending his list. Should the Owls run, it will be the first opportunity to see freshman Katie Jensen of College Park. Katie was the 2011 State 5A cross-country champion (as a junior). Also competing for Rice will be redshirt freshman Cali Roper of Willis. Cali was the 2011 State 4A cross-country champion (as a senior). Look for junior Allie Schaich to compete well.
I don't know if Becky Wade will be running unattached. As soon as I find out, I will post it here.

What kind of times do we expect out of the girls?

RE: Rice Cross-country meet this Friday on campus
It's way too early in the season (and the weather is still too warm) to worry about pace. Plus, this course has so many turns that it is difficult to maintain momentum. The team needs to have a certain number of meets in order to be eligible to compete in the NCAA Regional Meet. This is just an opportunity to stretch the legs and to get some competition.
Becky will not be racing, but will be there to cheer.

I'm sure that someone has answered this, but I don't know how to upload photos from my Android phone to a thread on the Parliament. Help, please!

If this works, it is because I pushed the select file button in the attachments section (down at the bottom) and then selected a file from my gallery.
And it seems not to have worked. Never mind

We did have a sound system, so I wasn't able to take photos.
Both of our teams ran well. Texas A&M has a quality, veteran team on the women's side, but it was a freshman (Karis Jochen) who was their top finisher in 2nd place. Rice finished in a close second, in spite of not yet being at full strength. Cali Roper closed fast to finish third and Katie Jensen was fourth.
The guys surprised me. I knew that Cavallo would run well, but there is some good quality and depth. If freshman Adam Davidson had not run unattached, the Owls would have won by an even greater margin.

What's the rationale/advantage for Davidson to run unattached?

If there is an injury, or if he doesn't develop quickly, the coach keeps the option of using the redshirt.

I have always thought that Coach Warren and Coach Bevan are two of our greatest assets in Rice Athletics. Its good to see they are bringing the wood so early in the season, I'm excited to see how the rest of the year goes. Well done!!
