Nah. Just the guy who challanges anyone who says "he knows something" when I'm sure he's just speculating, about something he "heard", from a "reliable" source. Most folks who claim to have "inside" information don't have a clue, much less an inside source.
Just so happens that most of that stuff posted here goes in one direction.
Let's just say(for ***** and giggles, this is a completely hypothetical situation) that I saw a certain Bama player receive $500 cash right in front of me. It happened so quickly I didn't even realize what was going on. I saw it happen, I know it happened, but how do I prove that?
Is this like that "If a tree falls in the forest" question? (Dang, if I had known there was gonna be a test, I would have studied a little.)
But Smaug, if such a situation happened to you, and you decided to post your story on an iternet chat board, I would say expect a lot of doubters.

And if you chose to post your story about a Bama player taking cash on al.com, I'd say "kiss your trees goodbye Smaug".

RE: OT: Impermissible Benefits Given to 5 SEC Players
I know a Bama football player that was given a car. I could name him, but I won't. Two reasons:
1. It was a long time ago.
2. I like him personally, and don't want to publicly embarrass him.
Do I expect you to believe me? Turns out I really don't care. I heard it from his mouth. I've been called worse things than a liar on internet message boards.

I played football (in high school) with one of the top running backs in the nation. He signed with Bama, then got a new car the spring of his senior year of hs. He was accused of taking a car for signing with Bama. The Barnrats, The Hillbilly crowd from east Tenn, and the Water Lizard Lovers all spread this rumor, most sighting "inside sources".
Turns out, his Dad gave him a car with some of the money he had saved for his college education, since he was getting a full ride. But those who wanted him to be their running back (but didn't get him) had no problem spreading lies to trash his rep. Just the way it goes some (most of) the time.
I also know a UAB basketball player who told me he took a car to sign with Auburn, then came to play with UAB. He also told me he was given cash by boosters. I won't call him by name (even though I think he's a jerk) because it really serves no purpose and I'm a fan of UAB. There is no controlling players or boosters, that you don't know are cheating, regardless of how clean you think your program may be.
And I neither called you a liar, nor said didn't say I didn't believe you. I just said to expect doubters.

Get 'em, Jack!
Yeah! GET EM!
Quote:Alabama State Representative Jack Williams, R-Vestavia Hills, in his role as co-chair of the Alabama Athlete Agents Commission, is calling for a one-year moratorium on any action by the NCAA or state attorneys general against student athletes who received improper benefits from agents if the athletes step forward and inform their school and NCAA officials of any wrongdoing.

Any chance he can get a stadium on the side?
This moratorium thing though seems a little ridiculous.
Seems like it is a ploy specifically designed for UA to not get hammered by the NCAA when it has done illegal practices.

RE: OT: Impermissible Benefits Given to 5 SEC Players
And what would all those BCS schools do if all or a majority of their superstars stepped forward to admit receiving improper benefits?
If the states are going to prosecute these "rogue agents", what punishment are they going to exact on the players whose hands were "elbow deep" in those agent's pockets all these years? Is the Bama fan base going to turn on Fluker and insist he be punished if it costs them a crystal trophy and a season of wins? Of course, anything that may have happened at Bama would presumably have happened at all top tier BCS schools.

Until the players who get the money never get punish ,,,it will never stop or even diminish.
School need to go after those players
By collectting the $$ for the scholy money , for the cost of thoses extra benefit those players get (aka bus trip, planes trips, private tutor etc) and even recuperate money lost by be banned for bowls or not getting in a major because of diminish scholarship
