Another thought is Jonathan Coachman. Seeing as how he spent 10 years in the WWE as an announcer and on air personality, he's the type that could excel in ad-libbing and playing to the crowd. But I suppose you need a coach or former player in that position.

Sorry, I laughed.

i don't know if they replace Corso. Can't take Kiffin because he goes anywhere near the SE, he's going to get decimated. I'll say a name that is out there but could see him in the crazy Corso role.... Barry Switzer.

I would love to see Barry's mug every Saturday morning. Good call.

IMO ESPiN could just eliminate Corso's role altogether. I've been saying it would improve the pregame shows tremendously for a couple of decades now...

He's now been traded or released by 3 teams. Not sure how many more chances he'll get.

We know that Mack Brown and Lane Kiffin will probably be available. I saw one comment that suggested Rick Neuheisel because he is very outspoken. Too bad he has baggage or else he probably would already be on ESPN.

Maybe a promotion: Lou Holtz, Mark May or Matt Millen (OK, I just mentioned them for laughs. I hope no one had a stroke.)

Mack Brown, then every mascot head would have man boobs. That would be funny and gross at the same time.

I wasn't exactly being serious but all the same, I wasn't exactly being completely facetious either.

That might actually end up being the end result. I liked Corso when he had all of his faculties, though. The GameDay group is the only crew on ESPN that approaches the rapport of the Inside the NBA guys on TNT.

Double the vomit on Musbarger...all he'd talk on Gameday about is the Buckeyes and ND. He's such a poor excuse for a play by play announcer...the play by play guy should broadcast the game and show little or no bias. When Musbarger is the announcer it's plainly obvious which teams he favors. I mute the tv when he's on.

Cowherd doesn't know siht about college football. Corso is a Seminole legend, who also coached at Notre Dame. He has a great pedigree and a great personality. Before he had the stroke, he was a fantastic analyst on games.

ACTUAL good candidates would be:

1. David Pollack
2. Matt Millen
3. Trevor Matich

It's hard to find a guy like Corso. He may be the best guy ESPN has had in the past 15 years with the exception of Chris Fowler. He's passionate about the game, the fans, and the Gameday experience.

I would say Herbie but he has the primetime ABC/ESPN slot more often than not and can rarely make picks on the Gameday games because he is a color analyst at 80% of those particular games. So they would have to replace Herbie and put someone else next to Musberger.

I'm guessing ESPN will do some kind of rotating trial period for a few different possibilities to see how they do and their chemistry with the other regulars.

I wasn't saying Musberger for Gameday, I was saying he's retiring I think after next year, and that would be a great time to do the Fowler/Herbie booth and retool gameday at that point.

Couldn't stand him as a coach, but he is really good on Pac-12 network. He doesn't fit the Lee Corso "weirdo cousin" role, though.

Well, he did coach in the state of Indiana, but Corso was never a coach at Notre Dame. In fact he coached the Hoosiers football team instead of the Irish. But other than that I agree with your assessment that it will be hard to find a character foil as good as Corso. They need somebody up there who is more than a pontificating ex-jock to provide some comic relief. The problem is I can't think of too many ex-coaches with a great sense of humor. And while Muschamp could fill the role of village idiot just fine he still has a job.

They will never truly replace Corso. He is the main reason the show is popular. Lots of great TV guys but this dude is one of a kind.
