Cowherd doesn't know siht about college football. Corso is a Seminole legend, who also coached at Notre Dame. He has a great pedigree and a great personality. Before he had the stroke, he was a fantastic analyst on games.

ACTUAL good candidates would be:

1. David Pollack
2. Matt Millen
3. Trevor Matich

It's hard to find a guy like Corso. He may be the best guy ESPN has had in the past 15 years with the exception of Chris Fowler. He's passionate about the game, the fans, and the Gameday experience.

I would say Herbie but he has the primetime ABC/ESPN slot more often than not and can rarely make picks on the Gameday games because he is a color analyst at 80% of those particular games. So they would have to replace Herbie and put someone else next to Musberger.

Well, he did coach in the state of Indiana, but Corso was never a coach at Notre Dame. In fact he coached the Hoosiers football team instead of the Irish. But other than that I agree with your assessment that it will be hard to find a character foil as good as Corso. They need somebody up there who is more than a pontificating ex-jock to provide some comic relief. The problem is I can't think of too many ex-coaches with a great sense of humor. And while Muschamp could fill the role of village idiot just fine he still has a job.

They will never truly replace Corso. He is the main reason the show is popular. Lots of great TV guys but this dude is one of a kind.

Agreed. There is no malice in or against Corso. He always reminded me of a real life version of Coach on Cheers.

Personality and pedigree are "right" but I think ESPN will want someone younger (Corso is 78, Holtz is 76, Switzer will be 76 in October).

If they're willing to stick to the older demographic, they're should go with Holtz. I've attended one of his motivational speeches, and even for being 76, he can get a crowd pumped up just by being himself.

He'd be the natural fit IMO, if they replace Corso.

This is true. Similar to what TNT will face if they ever have to replace Charles Barkley.

Nah, Switzer would be way better. Dude is funny and can laugh at himself, Holtz takes himself too seriously.

Not to mention the damages ESPN would have to pay to mascot heads from spittle.

Yep, in our household we refer to him as Snow White's 8th dwarf, Slurpy and we don't care for him either.

I'm sure ESPN will allow Corso to call that shot when he wants, but they will certainly keep limiting his role. When he does the analysis spots, it is incoherent. He needs to be there for the opening until the first commercial break and then at the end for the picks. Other than that, they have plenty of people around to fill his spots (Pollack, Rinaldi, SVP, Ponder, Finebaum, more Desmond)

OK thanks. If you want replace his semi kooky behavior with the same, Holtz is kind of like that. Dick Vermeil would be interesting but his is semi retired.
