Every good reporter learns there are things you CAN report, and things you DON'T report.

For example, there are things that GP KNOWS, but will not put out there in print. Easterwood - although not the typical Media personality - knows a LOT MORE than he's willing to say in print or on the air.

It wasn't a good idea for JM to post that the kid said his parents wouldn't allow him to go to Memphis. I guess he'll learn how to put on his big boy britches some day...

I see what you're saying but fans wanted to know why Wilson eliminated Memphis...he told it straight up.

That may be true, but you don't have to answer every question posed to you. Discretion can be your friend. By putting this out there, he threw the kid's mom under the proverbial bus. I'm sure she can handle it, but don't forget we're talking about a high school kid in the middle of this.

are you talking about Martin or the kid? The kid should follow the same advice. The kid threw his mom under the bus, not Martin.

Ay be he didn't like the decision thrust on him and quite intentionally threw momma under the bus.

Pure speculation on my part.

IMHO kid never would have said his mom didn’t want him to go to Memphis if she didn’t say it. At least that’s my thinking. My guess is JM figured it the same way and thus reported it.

…as he should.

Damage control, blame the reporter.

This is the same, John reported what was told to him.

Is it your opinion or fact? If fact, then I will take your word on it.

Exactly...

And don't tell me the kid should've had the sense to say "we're off the record, right?" Hell, even professional athletes don't always catch themselves on this. The reporter should've used better judgement.

This is not about whether JM had "the right to report"....this is about the use of judgement to post this. Martin should've known this would get blown up, and at what point? For what purpose?

To let fans know why the kid isn't coming to Memphis. Rather than get a canned PC answer, here we have the truth.

Good stuff my friend.

Since he did not tape the interview, what you have is a "he said, she said" version of why. Without corroboration, it is hard to know the truth. As a rule, the press is not always known for only printing the truth in a straight forward manner, without interjecting their own slant / agenda.

I don't get why the mom is so ticked off. It basically took all the pressure off the kid which is the important part. If I were in her shoes, I'd WANT all the burden to be on me. Anyone with a brain isn't mad at the kid. Hell if he's got that many offers from big schools, nobody expected him to pick us anyway.

I asked that question a few pages back. What existing campus rule was broken and who enforced it? This is pretty much the heart of the "he was banned" matter and yet no one seems to even have this much info --- I'm beginning to smell BS

Instead of posting the obvious "he shouldn't go around reporting everything he hears" --- why not argue against what he did report, which doesn't seem 'bad' at all to me. In fact, this seems to be mostly about mom's reaction.

I'm pretty certain he is not banned. Lets face it we all know what this is about. Lets not kid ourselves.

RE: Elbert Robinson 7' PF offered

FWIW, this group of coaches is casting their nets a LOT farther, and deeper, than even last year's group, IMO. A bunch more "mentions" this year compared to last .........and it is still early in the evaluation period. I am very optimistic about 2014.....really! Lotta good stuff happening.

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/201...artner=RSS

Unlike at last year’s Peach Jam, the Tigers staffers are doing more evaluating than seeing to be seen. It’s not just about being visible to a few key prospects but casting a wider net. They are trying to fill a second straight large recruiting class, and the tournament this year — along with the neighboring Peach State and Elite Youth Invitational events, and other tournaments nationwide — is the more preliminary stage.

You can say coincidence all you want...TigerPat wrote his statement first though. Looks awfully fishy.
