One of my coworkers is a huge fan of the series, and if I'm recalling right, he told me that "Otto" (the one you're referring to biting his own tongue out) is Kurt Sutter, the show's creator.

Kurt Sutter does play Otto; he's also Katey Segall's (Gemma) real life husband.

I just watched it all up until Jax takes over. It took me a couple of episodes to get past how vulgar the show was, but it is really good. Seems to me the nature of the show is to push the envelope pretty hard.

I may be mistaken, but I think the 1st TV show to "open Pandora's Box" in regards to displaying extreme scenes was "NYPD Blue" on ABC...The flood gates pretty much opened from there, Steven Bochco, I think, is the creator of that show, Shawn Ryan definitely crossed some lines with "The Shield", & FX as a network, has had no issue at all with providing programs that are TV-MA oriented, "American Horror Story", "The Shield", of course, "The Americans", "The Bridge"(anyone catch that lately?), "Archer", & naturally, "SOA." "Justified", even though it's rated TV-MA, is probably, the more "tranquil" of FX's dramatic offerings. We won't even get into what HBO put out there, their body of work is every bit as 04-jawdrop as anything FX is putting on the small screen.

RE: OT: Sons of Anarchy season premiere.
I never did see the first 3 seasons of SOA, I had dismissed it without ever having seen it, I thought pretty much the same thing, how good can a show about a motorcycle gang be?

I soon found out one night when I couldn't find anything else to watch on TV, I dug in for an episode. I've been a fan ever since. Matter of fact, I've gone back and purchased the first 3 seasons of the series on DVD to get caught up sort of.

Now that, I did not know...I also didn't know until recently that Katey is an accomplished singer, and I think she's worked with Fleetwood Mac at one time in her career, not too sure about that. Steven Bochco used to cast his wife in several of his shows, Barbara Bosson, "Hill Street Blues" & "NYPD Blue" for certain. He had a great show on FX that unfortunately, did not get renewed for a 2nd season...A war drama called "Over There"...It was a remarkably done program...

Who would you, as an observer of the series, would like to have seen casted as "Clay's" (Ron Perlman) successor on the show? If they hadn't killed off "Opie" (Bryan Hurst), he may have been the most popular choice among viewers. I'm a huge cartoon/animation fan, and Ron Perlman is the voice of "Slade" on the animated "Teen Titans" series. But I cannot detect that character's voice in Perlman's characterization of "Clay."

Perlman was also the narrator of "1000 ways to die" which was pretty funny in a dark humor sort of way. And his narration was funny. He's great on the Sons.
I've been watching the Bridge -I like it a lot, but primarily because of the characters. But I think it's going on too long with this one story-line - they're circling the wagons and extending it out. Should have done several cases the first year.
And there is a sub-story line, but it's confusing - and I haven't exactly figured out what's going on, except that last night a widow turned murderer (but not sure exactly why).

did you happen to see one of the pages in his notebook as the wind blew saying something about bullies?

Yep -

But the self-mutilation on the arm was very telling also

Love the show, but as of now, I think the school shooting crossed the line. I guess we'll see.

@TigerLogic: Did you see the trailer for next week's episode of SOA? Didn't "Nero" (Jimmy Smits) tell "Jax" emphatically, that the kid didn't do the shooting/killings? I know what I said to myself, if not he, then who? Guess we'll find out for sure next week...There is a method to Sutter's madness, but for the life of me, I can't see where he's going with this one.

I thought he said the kid used one of their guns in the shooting. I think the point is that the gang is ultimately responsible for the shootings.

"Sagal started her career in show business as a singer and songwriter. In 1973, she worked as a backing vocalist for various singers, including Bob Dylan and Tanya Tucker. In 1976, while a member of The Group With No Name, she contributed to the album Moon over Brooklyn. She was a member of Bette Midler's backup group The Harlettes in 1978, and again from 1982–83.[11] She performed backing vocals on the self-titled Gene Simmons solo album, the Molly Hatchet album Take No Prisoners and on Olivia Newton-John's 1985 single "Soul Kiss". Sagal also provided the vocals for "Loose Cannons", the theme song for the movie featuring Gene Hackman and Dan Aykroyd in 1990. The song featured her singing most of the song, while Aykroyd sang the chorus and had some background impersonations from the movie.

On April 19, 1994, she released her first solo album, Well... On June 1, 2004, she released her second album, Room.[12] She has also contributed to the Sons of Anarchy soundtrack.[13]"

Not sure but I do not know of her every being involved with Fleetwood Mac. I'm a pretty big Fleetwood Mac fan and don't remember anything about it.

Although her appearance has changed dramatically, she was the mom on married with children.
