Unless I missed something, TT said Kay is back to being about 100%.

It also gives me some encouragement to know that he plans on playing Coney alot in the next 2 games. The man gets it.

This surprises me. Is Kay's arm so damaged that he can't make the throws that he did last year that helped UC salvage the season, earn a Big East co-championship and win the bowl game for us? Kay was instrumental in UC's late season success last year. I was shocked when Munchie got the starting QB nod over Kay to begin this year.

I think it's wise move with Coney. Get him some reps during real games, albeit against lesser teams in chosen situations so if we need him later in the season he won't come in like a deer in the headlights.

Agree 100%. If Kay goes down, it wouldn't be the first time we've had more than one injured QB in a year.

Besides Coney and Kay, the only other active QB on the roster is the team surgeon's kid. Yikes.

I realize it's not ideal by any means, but we do have Cogswell and Harrison on the roster too, and both of them were rated as QB's at some point during their recruitment.

I will kind of miss not hearing the questions. The pressers were
like playing the TV gameshow Jeopardy. I'll take bantam weight
running backs up the middle for $500 Alex.

I noticed he didn't dress for the Purdue game. I would assume he did not travel either.

Interested about seeing Coney, but Kay must be hurt more than first thought. His play at Illinois did not remotely resemble his play last year.

You may be forgetting how he looked against Rutgers.....which to my mind was the best D he faced. I believe it's intoxicating to recall how he did against other Ds. All of which is to say either Illinois is much better this year, or missing time in camp really hurt him which in turn makes sense seeing how he lost his gig to Munchie.

It's prolly fair to say it's a lil of both.

Just throwing this out there...but there are only 2 other "good" defenses that we'll face the rest of the year. I'm not too worried about it, as I was thinking 10-3 (including a bowl win) this entire off-season.

I thought Kay grew as the season progressed. Remember he was just playing meaningful snaps for the first time since high school during the second half of last season. He didn't have a great game against Rutgers but their D pretty much stifled us (as they did to us in 2011). Kay had a great game against UConn which had the #9 Total Defense nationally last year. I sitll think he has a lot to prove but he is generally an accurate passer who doesn't make many bad decisions and can also pick up yards with his feet when he needs to.

Also keep in mind that this offensive passing game looks very vanilla...not a ton of advantage for a signal caller so far.

I think one thing that's been lost in the conversation is that this is Gran's first stint as an OC, and this is the first year this offensive staff has worked together as a unit. Bound to be growing pains.

Not to mention that they seem to be utilizing almost every offensive formation since the dawn of football except for the option. Jones/Bajakian used basically two: split backs from the shotgun as well as single back in the shotgun. It seems under Gran he's utilizing elements of the pistol, ace, i-form, offset-i, among those in the shotgun. That's a lot for an offense to master in less than a year.
