UT golf 2013-14
UT's fall season started over the weekend (for some reason I think of golf as exclusively as a spring sport in college; shows what I know). Regardless, the Rockets finished 11th out of 12 schools at Minnesota's Gopher Invitational. Next week they go to Ann Arbor for the Wolverine Invitational.

Women's golf squad won the Illinois State tournament in its fall opener. First of 14 schools. Ball State was 2nd, BG 3rd, Ohio 6th, NIU 13th.

Rockets go to Michigan State next for a tournament.

UT women's team in 9th place after day 1 of Michigan State's tournament. Ahead of the 2 other MAC schools in the field. Tournament concludes today with 18 holes after 36 yesterday.

UT women finish 9th in the MSU tournament, 4 strokes ahead of Eastern Michigan and well ahead of Western Michigan as far as the MAC schools are concerned.

Men's golf squad in 10th place (out of 11 teams) after day 1 of the tournament in Ann Arbor. One stroke ahead of last place Detroit. Two other MAC schools in the field, Miami (tied for 4th after day 1) and Eastern Michigan (in 8th place).

Edit: I should have said UT was in 10th place after round 1, not day 1. UT is actually in 9th after the first day of play (two rounds), ahead of Detroit and Oakland. Here's a link to a story on the UT site.

Men's team had a good third round to wrap up the tournament (4 under par, tying for the best team score of the final round; looks like they tied with Michigan State, Lamar and Xavier) but they still finished 9th in the tourney.

Men's team 10th (out of 14 teams) in a tournament in Indiana. FWIW, UT finished ahead of the other MAC schools that were in the tournament.

UT men finished in a tie for 4th (with Miami of Ohio) at the Georgetown tournament. They were the only MAC schools there. Rockets and RedHawks finished behind UAB, Notre Dame and Penn State.

UT women's squad wins twice (against Cleveland State and Western Michigan in the Mid-American Match Play Challenge in Florida. It's an eight team event, with the teams being seeded and ending in a championship match.

#1 seed Toledo faces #2 seed Bowling Green for the championship today (Feb. 4th).

UT women with a strong performance on Day 1 of their competition in Florida on Monday. Set a school record for lowest team score over 18 holes and Sathika Ruenreong tied the school record for lowest score by an individual with a 67. Play resumes this morning as they play the final round. UT in 7th place (out of 13 schools) after the first day. Rockets are the only MAC school in the field.
