UALR 2013-14 Schedule
Here's a link to the UALR Men's Basketball Schedule that was posted on the official site:

http://www.ualrtrojans.com/SportSelect.d...PSID=35719

I think this may be the least attractive home non-conference schedule that I can remember with only four non-conference home games, two of which are non Division I- UAFS and Southern Arkansas. The other two consist of those well known powerhouses North Florida and Grambling. Now that's really going to draw the college basketball fans out to the Jack Stephens Center! Not!

Pretty sad. Looks like the type of schedule we had years ago. We had really upgraded the home schedule in the last few years. I really don't believe this was due to a lack of effort by our coaches. I really believed they tried. Exactly why it turned out like this I don't know. I am even surprised we where able to add Grambling. I was told most SWAC teams are able to get 6 figures to go to BCS schools. Obviously, we didn't pay that. Unless we did a home and home, which is certainly possible, they must have been desperate for a game and willing to take less money to come to a place they can bus to. Actually, I think a home and home is the most likely scenario. We needed another DI game badly, they were willing to start on the road, and a bus trip to Grambling (in a day) can be done with very little expense. We have a bunch of driveable games- Tulsa, OU, Memphis, ULM, ASU, UTA, etc, so I hope to make some of those.

RE: UALR 2013-14 Schedule
Tough schedule. If we come out of it even moderately intact, we ought to be ready for conference.

RE: UALR 2013-14 Schedule
I don't hold them at fault for the schedule. You have to get some one to come play.

Recruiting you have to do the same but I do hold the coaches at fault for what we recruit and how we play.

RE: UALR 2013-14 Schedule
Isn't recruiting about the same? You have to get someone who will come and play? Now how they play, that's on the coach.

No, if you are failing at recruiting you need to get some that can.

Scheduling, if you have a good time no one wants to play.

It will be interesting to see where our SOS works out this year. A lot of the top, and a lot on the bottom.

The Trojans strength of schedule will be about the same that it has been because the really low level teams will be offset by the road body bag games. The conference will be about the same. The non Division I games don't even count.

I was thinking the same thing. But it might come out somewhat higher if Florida and Memphis are Top 10 teams. We don't really have that many really weak teams, other than the DII's that don't count anyway.

Once again they have not left us a really good date for the Army. May have to wait until after the first of the year.

The problem of course is that it is unlikely that we will get many wins against Division I teams in non-conference. Honestly, I don't see more than one win at most in the group of @MTSU, @ Southern, @Tulsa. I see no wins against Florida, Oklahoma, or Memphis.

So say we get the two home wins against North Florida and Grambling, and one out of two in the British Virgin Islands. That's four non-conference wins and five loses. To get to the 18 win total that Michaelspappy is talking about, the Trojans would have to go 14-4 in the SBC, and that's only if we pull off what would be an upset on the road that is referenced above. If not, we have to go 15-3 in conference play, which means winning six on the road and all at home. Not realistic. It is damn hard to win a road game in college basketball, especially against good well coached teams. I guess it could happen, as you never know in sports. But it seems unlikely.

Remember that wins against UAFS and Southern Arkansas don't count. Therefore 18 wins is a very tough pre-conference tounament number.

They count in me and Pappy's arithmetic, even if they don't count in the RPI. Like I said in another post, UALR:SAU is no different than Memphis:UALR. I'll be counting the Memphis loss so I'll count the
SAU win.

There is a chance I might get to go to the Tulsa game, which would be my first away game as a fan.

Memphis plays d1 ball and so does ualr

Sau plays d2.

D1 does not equal d2

Grambling does not equal D1 - not in reality. I have seen UAFS play a number of times, and I feel comfortable saying they would beat Grambling 7 out of 10.

All I am saying is that on our current schedule - which is what it is - my prediction is 18 regular season wins.

How bad was Grambling? According to Sagarin, last year they would have been beaten by the next-to-worst team (Lamar) by 13 points.

One thing about it: if we are fairly good this year, we ought to know it fairly soon.
