Birdsong Interview
Good little 2:00 interview with Michael Birdsong post game on JMUSports.com.

Couple of interesting thing I took from it:
1.) Birdsong pretty much said the Akron officials were on the FBS team's side at the end of the game
2.) Said his shoulder did go "numb" the first part of the game, but quickly recovered and he is "fine"
3.) He gave the Akron players a lot of credit and made an important observation about the talent from FBS to FCS:
"Those guys can hit, they are big and fast. Usually at our level (FCS) you're either big or fast"
4.) alluded to the penalties and clock mismanagement and how that was "huge"

Sharp dude. Very mature and confident for a true sophomore.

RE: Birdsong Interview
These experiences, as painful as they are, will mold Birdsong into a better QB. He had a very good game considering he is a 2nd year player and was playing against better overall talent than he will see the rest of this year.

He is good enough for the Dukes to make the playoffs this year and if that happens he will be better 10 games from now. As fans we will have to live with some growing pains along the way.

Agree with everything, but the one thing that I don't understand is MM has now made mention of Birdsong being tired, winded or something along that nature after each game played. I cannot remember any coach describing a qb that way. I watched him on the sideline and didn't notice anything unusual. Probably just MM not being able to come up with anything else.

Nah. MM isn't actually that cynical or evil or even that creative.

It's been a CRAZY cool August. Camps have been in the 70's, perhaps 80's on occasion and that's actually counter to what is expected, or normal, or even desired. Typically the players are in their best fighting shape as the season opens. With this? no ones sweating as hard, a lot of guys (and girls sports, frankly) aren't as well conditioned. You can't fake create that. Now, when they take the field and temps are up & it's go time, suddenly it's a lot tougher.

It'll come around. He'll get his feet and his wind and once that happens for all of them JMU football will be in good stead. Rest easy my friends. 05-mafia or simply rest....
