RE: Subway problem on campus
Fat SAMs wasn't there when I was in school, I don't think. I graduated in 1987. However I ate almost every day in a dive that was in the same shopping area, I believe. As a business student, i played Frogger every day trying to cross tenth avenue from the business building (there was no light then and 10th av was a speedway). The reward for surving was a lunch at a dive called Chris's Hot Dogs.

Do any engineering or business majors remember this place. I think it is a parking lot now.

It's useful for parents that want to try to keep kids from spending all of their money on booze and drugs, i guess. That's the only reason I can see to put money on it. Do any places offer any discounts with it now?

Mee too, and it's good to see.

I'm not all that bothered by the cup situation at Subway, and if I were still a student, I'd still be eating there frequently because of how close it is to the music building.

I asked a local hardware store owner, who sells lots of SEC memorabilia, why he only has one UAB item. I assumed it was just that the demand for it wasn't there, but he told me something about the way UAB protects their licensing for merchandise makes it harder for them to find UAB stuff they can stock. Apparently UAB likes to have a lot of control over who makes what, and doesn't give licensing rights out as freely as bigger schools do.

The point I'm making there is I highly doubt Subway can sell UAB cups, because I doubt whoever makes their cups has a license to make UAB stuff.

I still think that someone should approach the subway franchisee or corporate about the cup situation, and also point out to snoozy's about the cups. Snoozy owns the building and rents to subway so they may can have some leverage on them.

If the franchisee or corporate doesn't take action, then start a boycott of the location.

Also, if you have excess scholarship money the University will put the money into Blazerbucks. At least this happened to one of my friends. He was always making us eat at Al's so he could use them up. I've never used Blazerbucks for anything except copies. Its not very convenient for me.

Chris's closed a while back. Fat Sam took over a place called the sub station in about 1992, a couple doors down from Chris'. He celebrated 20 years I believe it was last year (2012), could have celebrated it in 2011. I think I first ate there around 95.

See BlazeNBham, if you do the math, more than likely he isn't 70 years old like you thought.

My favorite lines in Throw Momma from the Train -

Momma - You're Alive.
Old People - You got to reassure them.

Side note for BlazeNBham: Throw Momma From the Train was a movie produced in 1987. (back in the old days)

Momma: Who the hell are you?!
Larry Donner: I'm Owen's friend.
Momma: Owen doesn't have a friend!
Larry Donner: That's because he's shy.
Momma: No he's not! He's fat and stupid! Get out of my house!

It is becoming increasingly hard to relate to the students of today.

As mentioned before, my experience in dining was the 3rd floor Humanities Bldg, Burly Earls, & the HUC cafeteria.

It seems though that the students & players are having trouble finding places to eat with all of the changes going on with the HUC removal.

If they can't eat at the Commons then they deserve to go hungry.

Funniest thing I ever read on a men's room wall was over a urinal at Burly's.

"Please don't throw toothpicks in the urinal. The crabs have learned to pole vault." 03-lol

Used to go to Fat Sam's, Sneaky Pete's, The Purple Onion, HUC, cafe in the top o' one of the Libraries, and a couple other greasy spoon places spread throughout the campus. I also used to live in the old Blazer Hall that is where the new rec center sits.
