(09-09-2013 10:29 AM)TodgeRodge Wrote:  what you are seeing here is a mind set that has been developed by a large portion of north Texas state fans over the years

it comes from a ready made and often repeated set of excuses for sucking at pretty much everything for decades and the methods to deal with that and rationalize it

it is "SMU kept us out of the SWC" even though former SMU coach and former north Texas state AD and coach Hayden Fry says in his own book that SMU was open to north Texas state being in the SWC and did not block them joining and he also expressed appreciation that SMU scheduled them for some football games while he was there

then it is "SMU and TCU and others only play us when we are bad" while SMU has played north Texas state 33 times and TCU has played north Texas state 18 times

101 seasons of north Texas state football - 15 years in D1-AA and 3 years not played during WWII = 83 seasons

take out 2 seasons when SMU had the death penalty and did not play football = 81 seasons

81/33 = 2.4545 so SMU has played north Texas state on average every 2.46 seasons and for TCU every 4.6 and they have never been in the same conference and SMU and TCU have each others as rivals and also played for a number of years in a pretty much all Texas conference......but yea somehow they have "avoided north Texas state" or "only managed to play when north Texas state is bad"

then it was the "we played in a conference way out west where we were the only Texas team".......never mind that LaTech played way out west as the only Louisiana team and had success and TCU played out west as the only Texas team and had great success

then it was "we are the only Texas team in the Sunbelt"........never mind that UTEP had some good years as the only Texas team in the WAC and again TCU played as the only Texas team in their conference on purpose

then it was "SMU took our spot in CUSA and SMU blocks us from CUSA"

then it was "the stajium keeps the fans from showing up"

now it is "we need to win for the fans to show up"

and of course "a new stajium will get better teams to come here"

and of course "with Texas teams the fans will show up" (never mind the inability to sell out the first game in the new football todge mahaul with two ponds and a bridge when UH (a Texas team) came to play for the first game in the new stajium)

so now with the excuses running thin and getting tired they are faced with UTSA still bringing large amounts of fans, Texas State selling out their stajium for their first game, UTSA getting quality opponents to come to their stajium, Texas State beating UH for a win that got talked about and UTSA getting right into CUSA

so now north Texas state still unable to see the reality of the failures of the program and why clings to the mantra that others are responsible for their numerous failures and inadequacies and part of clinging to that is the belief that they can now do the same to others like UTSA and Texas State if they repeat the same BS that north Texas state fans have clung to like Texas State will be on an island as the only Texas team or UTSA will have 5,000 fans when they start losing

ignoring of course that Texas State expanded their stajium twice before they even moved up to D1-A instead of waiting 17 seasons to do so and ignoring that UTSA still has a hell of a lot of fans to lose/run off before they get down to the level of north Texas State and both of those programs voted to max out student fees and then actually did so to support athletics

so what you see here is north Texas state fans clinging to the last of their excuses and in desperation hoping that they can verbally hold others back they way they have convinced themselves that others have held them back while ignoring the futility of that and the obvious failures of that thinking and the outright repudiation of those beliefs by credible sources and by the success of other programs facing similar situations

desperation at it's finest when all your excuses and all your beliefs about those excuses and your situation all crash down in reality

TodgeRodge has UNT sized up pretty well.03-lmfao

Nice dude. I am looking forward to the USM-UNT game because you will sure be eating 01-rivals if you lose. So why should your contest against a likely winless Idaho warrant #8 ranking?

Don't pay any attention to him. He is a hater and jealous of Texas State for some reason. I think USM is going to shut him up.

You are always claiming that folks from North Texas hate and are jealous of Texas State. Texas State is seldom mentioned or even thought of by Mean Green fans. Seems that YOU are the one that is always running all over the net posting the hate and jealousy stuff and going on and on like a broken record. 07-coffee3

I don't know about that gap you've put between A&M and Baylor. I would love to see the two square off against each other. The over/under would have to be around 90. And I believe it would be close.

Nobody's jealous of Texas state. Not even A&M Commerce. ****** attendance (-minus 1 game that was half filled by Tech fans), terrible academics, reputation, boring as hell city, high school stadium, ugly logo, generic mascot, terrible font, terrible athletically, etc.

But y'all have a river. So there's that.

Also, Southern Miss is going to be destroyed by UNT. You can make stuff up for so long. But good luck in the FCSBC with all those Texas teams and powerhouses like Georgia State.

Do you even know what you are talking about? First, Texas State is a very nice school in a VERY nice city. LA Tech played there last year, and we found their facilities --and level of competitiveness-- to be very good. I told the USM folks months ago that TSU is tough.

Second, there's a good chance USM is going to bend UNT over the back of a truck and have their way with them. 05-mafia

Man I would love that. Especially if we reintroduced the Southwest conference. Plenty of talent in Texas even for LA, OK, and NM to recruit heavily in

I wouldn't mind playing Texas State and I don't mind playing UTSA. Most of our fans respect both of those schools and understand the fervor and excitement that comes with moving up.

I watched the UTSA OSU game and was impressed with Soza. Anytime you can put some points on a recognizable opponent it's a good thing.

No

CatMom is a dedicated Bobcat Fan. She does happen to know a lot of the players. Her daughter was the one who introduced her to Bobcat Athletics.

RE: Rank the Texas 12
I posted this on here a few weeks ago because I had to spend a week in Denton for work. I'm putting this here in response to Meangreener's font smack (which is trademarked by the way, don't try to use it *******).

Speaking of North Texas State, I just spent a week in Denton for work. I have to say that Apogee is a nice looking facility but it looks out of place in what I have to imagine is the ugliest college campus in America.

From an outsider's perspective....
1. My impression of the campus is that there is Wal-Mart sized parking lot infront of every building. It just gave credence to the opinion I've had that it was a true commuter school.

2. There was only one big sign or entrance for campus, on Ave D, across from Exxon and McDonald's...and I wouldn't consider that a 'gateway' to campus. The campus had no identity...no signs or markers along the campus' edge, no landscaping, no symbolic transition from city (strip malls and crummy apts) to campus (tan buildings with either no windows or too many windows).

3. I understand it is the middle of summer but it was a true ghost town. I could not imagine playing football for NTSU and having to stick around for summer classes. Summer is the best time of year (other than fball season) in San Marcos...its where other college kids go to have fun.

Conclusion: I wasn't expecting much but I will still disappointed. Stadium looked nice though, but its on the wrong side of I35.

It's pretty obvious that you only drove around the outskirts of campus, so I don't know why you're setting yourself up as an authority on UNT's campus design. But if it makes you feel a little bigger, carry on, I suppose.

My Responses In Black Bold:

Oooh, North Texas State05-nono That's really hitting below the belt and one that really hurts but fact is........we had most of our NCAA modern era athletic success nationally when we were known as North Texas State and I presume yall did as SW Texas State Teachers College while in the, uh, NAIA?

AND....because much of the San Marcos city sewer runs thru your campus in river form makes your campus so special and makes the rest of us want to close ours down?03-lmfao Don't you know all those sweet little honey dripping down their chins co-eds all add to it by peeing in that river, too? And the guys? Should we go into what it is they exactly do-do-do-do while in the San Marcos City Sewer System River portion?

From an outsider's perspective....

And keep in mind that those are the 4 key words with your entire post; that is...."from an outsider's perspective."

1. My impression of the campus is that there is Wal-Mart sized parking lot in front of every building. It just gave credence to the opinion I've had that it was a true commuter school.

UT-Austin is statistically more of a commuter school than North Texas and has been for years. Seems to me they do well as "the vaunted and feared commuter school", too. How about you...do you agree about UT-Austin (since your school is in its long shadows)?

YET.... UNT a commuter school?03-lmfao Well, North Texas has more than twice the number of SMU and TCU's combined enrollment who live on or within blocks of our campus, so if you persist in using the old tired (and mostly untrue) "commuter school" card for UNT go ahead and work on your keyboard skills and speed while doing so.

You a big entrance guy then? Well, how about that Murchison Performing Arts Center, ie, the main performance hall for our internationally famous UNT College of Music and that setting behind that "temporary" main campus entrance. (Yes, it is "THOSE" Murchisons from Dallas, too). Lest you be visually impaired, North Texas has campus construction at every turn and is merely preparing for a future enrollment of 40-42,000 students (with more dorms for all those "commuter" students, too)!

Most of those parking lots you mention will have expanded facilities on them the next decade and one of those under construction now is our (basically) new Union Building which is beyond description but try this virtual tour for starters: IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE IMPRESSED WITH UNT'S "NEW UNION" & watching some of those parking lots you mentioned disappear...THEN DON'T LOOK AT THE NEXT 2 MINUTES & 37 SECONDS IN THE YOUTUBE VIRTUAL TOUR VIDEO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcVtlmvGr...Os0-JshCGY

3. I understand it is the middle of summer but it was a true ghost town. I could not imagine playing football for NTSU and having to stick around for summer classes. Summer is the best time of year (other than fball season) in San Marcos...its where other college kids go to have fun.

What area code of our campus did you stay or visit? Did you not go over to the Fry Street part of the UNT campus ((our 6'th Street) to listen in on some world class musicians and take in the art'sy crowd? Yes, our campus is sprawling but you seemed to not get to visit much of it to read your post.

Conclusion: I wasn't expecting much but I will still disappointed. Stadium looked nice though, but its on the wrong side of I35.

Huh?!?!? :lmfao:Apogee Stadium sits nicely between 2 very well travelled Texas interstates, ie, I35-E and I35-W so what pray tell is so wrong about that location for crissakes? Our football coaches actually see it as a strategic location and why not? And what a weird thing to say as in "but its on the wrong side?" 05-nono

I'm from the Fort Worth area so the stadium is just right for me and I'm sure the 100,000 who drive by it daily are a tad impressed themselves. I've had a couple from OU even say some pretty nice things about it, too, since they would drive past it coming from Norman.

Well, we from UNT sit on the edge of our chairs daily worrying ourselves sick if someone from TSU-Aquarena Springs is going to approve of our campuus, ie, the main campus of the UNT System; I said, uh, once again..the UNT System: http://untsystem.edu/

IT'S MOSTLY ALL BETWEEN THE LINES FROM BOBCAT POSTERS:

The above thoughts is yet another TSU alum or fan posting of which the underlying "between the lines" theme is still this: TSU Bob'catters wanted in CUSA and Commish' Brit Banowsky doesn't have a spot for another Texas-based CUSA school, but worse for TSU'ers is that no one in CUSA will schedule them in the future; even the "only" Texas-based NCAA FBS school they thought were their rivals....UTSA, is having to drop them off their future football schedule.

And FWIW...there are close to 37,000 UNT students this Fall with another huge freshmen class. Couple all that with over 200,000 U of North Texas Metroplex alums who were impressed enough with our school to become students (then alums) and that is really all that matters
.

Go on now, kitty, kitty.03-yawn

Did a Southwest Texas State-San Marcos fan call us commuter AND ugly?

LMFAO. SWTSUSM is a hideous campus with a sewer running through the middle that is about as commuter as it gets.
