OK, I see from you're post above that you were not trying to draw the conclusion that I inferred from your words.

That being said - the hiring of Dickey was questionable to me.

If Fuente is calling the plays, then he must not have much faith in the offense.

Or perhaps since he was OC at a much more prolific offense at TCU than Dickey has experience with, he feels it is better for him to call the plays. Ya think?

I'm not sure I get your reply.

I don't care who calls the plays.

You're drawing the conclusion that because Fuente is calling the plays it means he doesn't have faith in the offense (i.e., OC Dickey). I pointed out that it is logical and likely that Fuente calling the plays has nothing to do with any supposed level of faith in Dickey. Fuente is the expert in the offense he wants to run, so he choses to run it.

Sorry - that's not how I meant for it to come off - I was saying me personally, I was skeptical of hiring Dickey.

And Fuente's lack of faith was not in the OC, but the players.

If Fuente felt he could open it up and throw it all over the yard, I am sure he would.

Many head coaches call the offensive plays. Nothing new here & no knock on Dickey.

Agree - just saying I was skeptical of hiring Dickey - guy is career 42-64 as a head coach and not some wunderkind offensive genius either...on the other end, I was just saying if Fuente is the one calling plays he must not have too much confidence in the offense right now as the playcalling was very vanilla.

So if they can't run a vanilla offense, you think they can run a more complicated, high risk offense that requires more skill?

Well we've run vanilla for 40 years with less personnel. I would think something innovative would help a team lacking on the line.

Our offensive didn't run that many plays....and when they did I could see them coming from a mile away.
We called that same screen pass like 5-7 times yesterday. I was having bad Clay Helton flashbacks from Tommy West's tenure.

I sit behind our bench & unless I'm mistaken our head coach calls the offensive plays. There may be some communication with Dickey but Fuente has the play sheet and is calling the plays.

I wanted a more open offense too but even though our QB was on the money with most all of his passes we didn't have receivers who could get separation or catch balls thrown right in their hands. And we have to make the run a threat in order to be able to have time to pass. Add to that that our defense could not stop Duke on 3rd down over and over. It all plays together. But we will improve and we aren't turning the ball over. Hopefully this week we will show that we can sustain a drive and get some stops. That alone will provide for success and wins.

I like the offensive scheme and can see what he is trying to accomplish with the play calling. I don't have any complaints other than our running game is getting stuffed up the middle.

We attempted to get some speed guys on the corners but Warford couldn't get his hands on those tosses, whoever's fault it might have been. And those bubble screens will work once the wide receivers get over their funk. After football season last year I went back and watched TCU's Rose Bowl replay and Fuente's play calling was impressive.

Sometimes when you cannot run the ball like that...you have to take a West Coast offense approach. Small dump passes to wideouts or running backs. If they can make the first person miss...you can gain 'running' type yards that way. We know it works....San Francisco (Bill Walton's version & Steve Marriucci)....and every other West Coast offense team has proven that it does.

I'm not about to seriously second-guess our coaches at this point, after one game, with a brand new QB. And I wouldn't do that anyway because, hey, I've never even called a Little League game and I'm not paid the big bucks to coach. 03-lmfao

But just for fun....it would have been fun to see the ball dumped over the line to our TE, or a reverse, or a few tricky plays. I did like the double hand-off, although I don't think we got much yardage from it.

I WAS starting to have Clay Helton flashbacks at the end of the game when we were down two scores and we were running screens. ???? I, like so many others, are just living for the day when we will/can go straight downfield with the ball.

I'm not quite sure what the immediate answer is to the OC situation, if they even feel they have one.
