RE: Boy this Syracuse/Penn State game is exciting.
I like balanced games. 6-3 snoozefests are no more or less appealing to me than Arena League bullschitt football. I understand that is sacrileges to say in some quarters but to me, football is about all three phases and I like seeing all three sides impact the game. As such, 70-63 games are just as schitty to watch as 3-0 games, IMHO.
Easy ways to fix this is the official NEVER should run to spot a football. That gives offenses a ridiculous advantage and it is difficult to watch that garbage. Also, the official should spot the football and then stand over it for a few seconds to get everyone set to actually play football. It is horrible for the sport to see guys who can barely line up before the ball is snapped. Where is the skill in that?
Also, they should not stop the clock after first downs. Again, that is a very antiquated rule and if provides offenses with a good 8-10 more snaps per game. That rule also lengthens games to the point that college football games are now on average about 35-40 minutes LONGER than a Major League Baseball game. That rule needs to go and now.
As a compromise, at least initially, I would allow the clock to stop after first downs made in the final two minutes of each half, but even that is stretching things, IMHO. They need to adjust these rules before someone gets terribly hurt playing this garbage football.

I agree. You need balance not only for success but fan interest.

Disagree. Be ready or be beaten.

Disagree. It leads to much more frequent comebacks and a better product for the viewer.

Disagree. The risk of injury is questionable at best despite Bielema and Saban's self-interested grandstanding. If anything the spread teams that hurry up a lot are less injury inducing due to fewer hulking lead iso blocks.
