Hey, Mickey Matthews...is that you? If it is...own up to the fact that you coached an absolute SH*TTY game and it is because of you we lost.

Thanks. That'll be all.

RE: We are not ready....
So what was up with the looking at the sideline thing? I would say with confidence that this happened at least 40% of the time, possibly 50. At first, I thought it was a tactic Birdsong was using...call a very hard count to try and make Akron jump for 10 seconds, then get the play from the sidelines, then call the play. But the longer this happened, the more that it looked like confusion. Perhaps someone who watched on ESPN can explain this.

On another note, Akron fans were the nicest fans I've ever met. The family of one of the DT's took us in for their tailgate prior to the game and gave us beer and food. Later in the night I talked about the game with some former players from the late '00s at a bar. They told me that they were ridiculously impressed with our athletes and our fan support. I then proceeded to beat them in a car bomb chug-off. GoDukes.

I can't say for sure, but I would assume this is how they audible. It seems like Birdsong will line up and if he sees something he doesn't like he'll look over to the sideline to get a new play. Maybe they don't yet trust him enough to have him call an audible on his own.

is it that...or designed to keep the defense from changing players?

i believe college is like the NFL, where if the offense changes players, the D must have adequete time to do so as well.

sometimes I think the plan is to run to the line and get a play off quickly. But sometimes I think it is designed to force Akron into certain schemes/players on the field.

As that CB should of been. And that certainly hurt the team.

Hopefully you're not implying JMU coaching could have stopped that young man from making a stupid, youthful decision? Common sense tells you no coaching staff tells a player go out and get involved in a drug deal, and for good measure, make sure guns are involved.

I know for a fact JMU players are counseled and taught what to do...but following the rules and doing what they're taught/told to do is another matter.

No No...that wasn't my point, though I see how it can be read that way.

I just meant to highlight that we were missing another starter at CB, and that we might not have those issues with an additional 22 scholarships available.

It hardly "sucked". mistakes made? Perhaps. more mistakes on the field or from the sideline? watch the replay and tell us what specifically you would have done so differently. If the coaching "sucked" then there should be plently of instances.

Another backrow bomb thrower. You this vociferous about that uvgay embarassment?!?

It's UVA, not uvgay. You'd think in 2013 we could do without the homophobic slurs. But hey, if it makes you feel manly to use that word in a derogatory way...go right ahead.

UVA was outmatched. JMU was not. There's 1:09 left and MM calls a run play on 3rd down on our own 23 yard line (knowing it's 4 down territory). Of course it goes absolutely nowhere so the last timeout has to be burned. Why there was only 1 with over 5 minutes to play in the fourth after a back and fourth game that was going down to the wire has been well documented on this board. This is sucky clock management. This is a pattern with MM.

I can get passed the coaches being slow with the plays and having Birdsong and the rest of the team looking to the sideline. And, yes, we had some costly penalties and miscues that ultimately put us in a position to have to make a drive at the end of the game. But despite that, the players fought tooth and nail all game and didn't give up. They're kids with, at best, a couple of years of college experience. How many years of experience does MM have? It's his job to have those kids in the best situation he can have them in and he dropped the ball.

I'm "vociferous" because when people bring up something on this board that is truthful, like calling out the coaching, or the University's lack of communication, etc. there's always a couple JMUBOT knuckleheads that try and question those people's loyalty because they think that pretending everything's always great in JMU land makes them a better fan or something.

Congrats...you win best fan award. I'll stick to reality.

I thought Akron called that TO. Sadly, we were out if timeouts by then. Which only proves your point even more...

Box score says JMU called the time out.

RE: We are not ready....
Yeah, ESPN screwed up on recording the TOs. We called two TOs early in the 2nd half: The first was on a 3rd and 6 which failed, then we went for it on 4th and converted due to the PI call and the second one was used before the FG. It was Akron which called the TO before our 2-pt conversion attempt which ESPN incorrectly credited to us.

Our 3rd TO was used after that failed 3rd down run late. I think ESPN said it was Akron which took the TO, which confused the heck out of me at the time as to why they would do that.

You are not allowed to call out non-rootin' on someone who just attended a game you didn't.

Akron lost to Michigan at The Big House by 4 and we should have beat Akron. In recent years JMU was semi competitive with a very talented WVU team on a neutral field, beat VT in Blacksburg, and took Maryland to overtime in College Park. We have 4 players in the NFL right now, our facilities and budget are in line with many FBS schools, for a relative young and growing university we travel pretty well- we're ready- we'd make a run at .500% playing an FBS schedule in a conference like the MAC or CUSA today and with the extra scholarships maybe even qualify for a bowl within 3 years. Let's not sell ourselves short.
