That was Big East refs for Syracuse that cost Toledo the game. The ESPN TV announcers after watching the replay were in disbelief. Toledo got hosed. I think it was the 2010 season.

I think it's pretty easy to argue. If someone cheated and didn't get called for it, the rules say that a fair game should negate that. What kind of logic is that? So let me see if I have what you're saying....
Cheating that wasn't called = OK because of missed tackles earlier in the game?

From Stoss' article in the DNR ... In fu**ing real...
Why is this guy still our head coach?!
" That being said, we didn’t get a chance to kick the field goal because Dae’Quan got that unsportsmanlike conduct [penalty], which I’m sure was a good call. I didn’t see it, but I’m sure it was a good call by the official"
No you POS ... We didnt get the field goal because you used all our timeouts earlier and you didn't SPIKE the ball on 1st down at the 35. **** this guy

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but why are we throwing to the middle of the field on the last 2 plays? We had to know that if we didn't get the first down it would have been very difficult to get to the line and spike the ball. Should have been throwing to the sidelines.

Haha , or we just gave up too many big plays to a below average team.

I guess he forgot that he called a timeout because his staff wasn't organized enough to get his field goal team on the field. Or, maybe it was because they called one before going for 2 where Birdsong got sacked without even getting the ball out of his hand. That was a nice plan there.
If this moron saw the Dae'Quan play, he had been tackled and smartly, they weren't letting him get up and back to run another play and he got pissed and smacked a guy in the face mask after he'd been laid on and smacked in his own by the whole D line. It was a horse **** referring charade all around. He was just trying to get up and get back for another play but nobody cared about that including our own dumb coach.

Yeah I mentioned that, that play should have been one where it's going to be either first down, out of bounds, or incomplete. That way worst case is we get to try a 53 yarder.
But anyway, come on with the delay of game stuff. If it was the other way around and they had called a delay of game on JMU to give Akron yardage plus an untimed down to kick the field goal when they may not have been able to get a play off anyway, all of us would be going nuts over how the refs handed them the game.

RE: The worst officiating I've ever seen
Nobody is mentioning this and I'm not sure why:
We picked up a first down with about 20 seconds remaining and the clock stops. There is no way you are going to have four more plays in 20 seconds. So, why isn't Birdsong directed to spike the ball when the chains reset leaving about 18 seconds on the clock? This would give us the time to huddle and make sure we have a play that either gets out of bounds or beyond the first down for another stoppage. It might even give time for 2 plays if the action goes out of bounds, or an incomplete pass. Even with a spike and two plays you still have another down for field goal attempt. It's basic two-minute drill strategy to give up first down to stop the clock. My high school kids can do this correctly. Why can't JMU??? (although UGA screwed this up in the SEC championship game last year as well)

Yep. Thinking you can run a play with 10 seconds left and if you only gain 8 instead of the 10 needed for the first down, can reset the ball and have time to spike it and stop the clock is wishful thinking at best... It's not realistic, no matter who the ref is. The planning for that play should have started long before 10 seconds left.
Also, I'm okay if we try to do the right thing and the players don't execute. It blows me away that the coach of 20+ years is messing it up.

This is what irks me about MM. He never takes accountability and blames himself for the losses. He's so quick to throw one of his own under the bus rather than placing the blame on his own shoulders, which is where it really belongs.

The refs weren't that bad. The refs did not cost us the game. Our poor defense and several stupid penalties cost us the game.

And extremely poor clock/timeout management. Don't you dare leave that out.

And refusing to step on their throats when we're dominating a game. That's the biggest part of it in my opinion. Keep playing your game and we wouldn't have been running the ball on 3rd and 8 and wouldn't have fumbled to set them up to take the lead. Really it probably wouldn't have been in that situation anyway.

This is way down the line and who knows we may have a great year still...but, if we don't, Mickey is gone. Who would be good candidates to bring in? It's a pretty attractive job IMO.

I've got a suggestion. Give it a rest, and try and to enjoy the season.

It's a good suggestion if we win but this is a message board. The point is, let's not act like Jeff Bourne and prepare for things in case they happen (your job) and not assume everything will go perfectly. In this case, you need to be paddling under the water esp. with Mickey's contract situation.
