Poll watching week 2
Iowa only defeated their FCS opponent by 14 so I think that hurts us.

Miami beat #12 FL so they will likely pass us.

Cinci lost their QB then got killed by UofI so they are out their 19 vote points.

BGSU convincingly beat Kent St at their place so they should get a few more vote points.

Also...just looking towards the future a bit, Purdue seems TERRIBLE, if they got railed by the cincinatti team that got beat bad by Illinois (although I'll admit Illinois looked good) and then almost lose to Indiana st., they may not win 3 games this year.

Other opponents for this year...
UMASS and CMU are losing to their FCS opponents.

Ball St killed Army in Muncie.

EMU got killed by Penn St

EMU looked OK in the 1st quarter...I was hopeful, but then it got bad.

I'm watching Toledo, their D looks great...their offense just terrible so far

Missouri State came to play in that game, that is a good team. This year though if you can get by FCS without losing its a bonus!

Two things scare me, to see Ball State has figured things out and see the Toledo defense so good. Id much rather see the same old good offense/bad defense Rockets.

You're priceless. Missouri State LOST last week to some team named Northwestern State. But you're right, they're a "good team"

Poll watching week 2
Fact is the rankings for NIU will go up and down bases on how the big boy BCS teams play. Those below us that have early success will jump us. Those that struggle ahead of us will slowly fall. We will move up through attrition. We will move up only by wearing down the national media. We will move up by proving we belong, despite our schedule.

I know it is early but I think the writing is starting to be written on the wall, for a non-AQ to get a BCS game this year, they probably have to finish in the top 12. While no conference appears to be real dominant, the power conferences seem to have their better teams fairly even distributed. I just don't know that NIU, Fresno, San Jose State, or BG have the schedule strength to get there even if undefeated.

As expected this week with not many good matchups , all the teams that were supposed to win, won. Hopefully we only drop 2 or 3 slots to #33.

The MAC is doing us no favors through week 2 in helping our SOS case. We rose in the polls because the SOS within a stronger MAC in 2012, this year if the MAC has no signature wins and us playing a bad Idaho and Purdue team we may not get the same amount of love....

Lets hope for some better results the rest of the way in OOC play.

At least the rise of BG as a power and their trouncing of Tulsa leaves the possibility of a ranked vs ranked MACC, that really helped NIU last year to have a game vs a ranked team to end up.

Come again? Our SOS was worst in the nation last year.

#15 Texas lost by 19 by BYU who lost to Virginia last week...should help a bit

ND lost by 11 to Mich...I doubt that helps much if at all

WMU and UMASS lost to their FCS opponents...that will hurt our SOS in the end.

In terms of polls at this point I don't think MAC results mean that much. If Washington State can upset USC I think the Huskies drop maybe 1 spot, if USC wins we probably drop 2 or 3 spots. Texas will be interesting, giving up 550 yards on the ground, yikes. Probably drops them to right around 25.

The WMU and UMASS games I was talking about computer rankings...which only matter if greatness happens this season. Long way to go before then though.

Ah I see what you mean, its pretty amazing how greatly the early computers differ on their view of the Huskies. Sagarin and Massey have NIU in the upper 40s I believe, and Billingsley is 15.

A weaker MAC will definitely effect our computer and human rankings... its very important to us if we want to get there this season.

Computers I would say yes, but humans, I just don't know. From an SOS standpoint it seems like we are always starting near the bottom, so our potential losses are also minimized. That is why we would have to go undefeated to matter every year. If Iowa can go .500 in the Big 10 that would be huge for us.

Not really if we beat those teams by 21+

If we win a close game vs any MAC team other than Toledo or Ball St then we will be hurt by the coaches votes.

One other thought...Hopefully Ball St can beat Virginia in a few weeks...who beat BYU...who just beat Texas.
