So the ultimate goal is another conference title and a BCS bowl. That is still very much alive. We now have several weeks playing poor teams in order to clean up the issues we had today. Time for this team from the coaching staff down to look at the film, see where mistakes were made, and work on fixing those mistakes. Still a lot of season left. The Tennessee loss in 2011 was very similar to this loss today. We rebounded and finished well that year and can do so again this year.

Well said and a good perspective. We weren't as good as the purdue score and aren't as bad as today's score. This wasn't going to be a perfectly smooth ride with a whole new staff and schemes. Gotta focus on fixing problems and improving and still everything to play for. Feel bad for Munchie but maybe Kay will re-emerge now and settle in like last year. It is one game. Plenty more to play. Anyone ready to jump off and not attend next weeks game because of today was never really in it. I think most of our fans are smarter than that and will be there next week.

Put very well Murph - having one QB should allow us to have better rhythm and consistency. Actual fans will still attend. Hopefully, some marginal ones will come too.

Did anyone listen to the post game? This tweet from Tommy G has me a little fired up.

Tom Gelehrter ‏@Tommy_G 3h
Coach Tuberville said that Illinois ran about the best 100 offensive plays he has ever seen. They didn't make a mistake all day.

What fired me up was the quote that it was tough for us to play 2 Big Ten teams in 2 weeks. Don't like excuses.

+1. Purdue and Illinois are teams we should squash. It's not like we played OSU and Michigan in back to back weeks.

I suspect IL is better than expected but it looked to me like a lack of preparation and I find that inexcusable.

Was extremely p!ssed at today's game, but I'd rather see this stuff emerge now, than later. There are still two games prior to conference season. Time to get back to work.

Where do we go? We go on to win The American Athletic Conference. There are a lot of things to learn from this game, and the coaching staff will get them where they need to be. I would hate to be Northwestern State. Now is the time.

Illinois dang near lost to Southern Illinois...who scored more than we did. The loss today was inexcusable (getting hosed on the TD call aside, which potentially changed the outcome of the game).

Worse loss since Dantonio's abortion against Army.

some over on UC247 are in full meltdown mode...<eye roll>

I'm not happy with the loss but let's not make this into something it's not.

Not making excuses, but from my understanding Illinois dominated the 1st half and then emptied the bench. They also were very vanilla and this week it was a crazy amount of wrinkles. Hats off to them for the game plan, but we did not come to play. I think they may be better than expected. Still likely a lower tiered team. Guess we will see next week when they face washington. Then the terrible td overturn and munchie injury pretty much did us in.

Look, we were just not prepared. Falling behind 21-0 says so. Not getting pressure on the QB says so. Having DB's allowing Illinois' wideouts to get behind them consistently says so. Not being able to score with a first and goal from the 5 of Illinois says so. Giving up 45 points to a team that hadn't beaten a 1-A school in two years says so. We thought we would just show up and win and we were embarrassed. This is a setback to the direction that the program needs to be going in. The AAC is so gosh awful that we may bounce back but today was a wake up call. We are not nearly as good as we thought we were.

That's awful. Guy comes from the B12 and he is overwhelmed by playing 2 cellar dwellers from the B10.

This is the reason why the program hasn't moved forward yet. We consistently poo the bed when we need to make a statement and move forward. The Jones era brought a miserable 2010, loss to an awful TN in 2011, and then a miserable showing to Toledo in 2012. Now its 2013 and an awful showing to a B10 cellar dweller in 2013.

A lot of teams rush 3 and drop 8 if it's say 3rd and 8 or longer.. You do this because you don't have very good DB's.

so if you don't have very good dbs....why on earth put 5 or 6 of them out there?....why don't you try to get to qb so those not so good dbs don't have to cover as long?

no doubt we didn't come to play today and Illinois also exposed us in some areas.

I am referring to the general state of the program...this loss in itself doesn't set us back 20 years or push out of realignment talks etc. It's not that severe.

Well I missed most of the 2nd half of the game today and just found out the score and about Munchie a short time ago.

UC had just failed to score from 1st and goal at the 2 and I see right after that Illinois went 99 yards for a TD and that was pretty much all she wrote.

I'm very concerned with UC's apparent inability to put the ball in the end zone when they get close. And I was also worried about the secondary before the season started - looks like they could be a problem.

Did UC get to the Illinois QB at all today?

We better get something figured out on defense or Teddy B is going to SHRED us. Heck Houston's qb will too.

No pressure on the QB today. I wouldn't say UC failed to score on 1st and goal - we scored a TD - awful overturned call.
