something I noticed when I was down there 2 weeks ago was that the pole banners were the typical soldier field banners.. When NIU plays they have NIU banners up for most of the summer.

I actually think this is a smart idea, and thought we definitely should have used Groupon for the Wisconsin game and probably Iowa too. Put the groupon out there late and see what you can fill in.

If you want to say their team sucks, fine. I agree. To say this is "arrogant" is pretty absurd. It's better than the NIU marketing of their SF games, where it was baSically declared "mutual site. " It's called marketing. Something UI hasn't done in Chicago in years, and no college team in Illinois has ever been able to succeed in the Chicago area, outside of ND.

Yes with how terrible the team is I wouldn't call it arrogant, it is more comical.

I wonder how many tickets they have actually sold for this game?

It wouldn't remotely surprise me. Washington won't bring anybody (unlike Iowa) and the UI fanbase has, generally speaking, given up. Hell, I'm not going, watching Illinois lose by 30 points 5-6 other times this season is enough for me.
Also, the Groupon is actually SF's ticket allotment, UI isn't able to discount their own allotment of tickets. I'm not sure on the contract NIU had, but they may not have been able to discount them, either.

Wrigley maybe. SF would be a huge financial risk.
How would it be any more of a risk than this game?
My guess, not many. 30k by game dayGame has zero appeal to alumni of a losing team and a mid-level visitor from 3000 miles away who may have 2-3k fans. They have allocated some tix at $30 from day one.
